Those elves lied. The letters never arrived up to this day. Suga still kept mentioning about that. lol

Anonymous

Has anyone ever mentioned BT21 to you? I hope eventually react to how to create their own character. RM-Koya, Jin-RJ, Suga-Shooky, Jhope-Mang, Jimin-Chim Chim, V-Tata, and JK-Cooky. It is amazing to witness the entire process how they develop these characters. https://youtu.be/OCtCmqoP2RI

Suga is a workaholic. Even during their one month vacation in September 2019, during each member had the time to do whatever they wanted, Suga stayed in Seoul and in his studio working.

Charmaine Flynn

who said Jin will have kids first? LOL... it's Namjon that's going to have kids first. He bought shoes for his firstborn already! hahaha. By the way, Lady Gaga calls her fans "little monsters" ;)

heavenlyonesbts

Uh DT, American/Canadian music stars (at least some of them) do have names for their fandoms. Lady Gaga's fans are Little Monsters; Demi Lovato's fans are Lovatics; Justin Bieber's fans are Beliebers; Selena Gomez's fans are Selenators; Adam Lambert's fans are Glamberts; Slipknot's fans are Maggots; Metallica's fans are Metallicats; and it goes on and on, lol

KIKI

yeah but i think western artist dont use it as much as kpop artist.. like i can remember selena gomaz winning an award and calling fans Selenators, she just says fans. It depends where they are of course but i feel like western artist dont say it as much as kpop artist do

Aya

i definitely suggest watching the whole thing, especially because the characters will come up a lot in upcoming run and bv episodes

KIKI

when it comes to trainees it is difficult for them but the kids who become trainees chose to do that. It is difficult in lots of ways but those kids have a passion for singing or dancing so they choose to do that.. Its not only kids who become trainees but its still hard

Anonymous

I love season 1 but can't wait to watch season 2 together!!

Aliphsi

I wish companies wouldn't accept trainees that are under 15. It is very hard to grow away from your parents in an unknow enviroment with unknow people and with tht amount of responsabilities. Early teens are very important and I do think they lose normal experiences. Unfortunally, nowdays it seems companies are taking younger trainees, specially now that the limit age for military service dropped too.

DT, it was really great to re-watch the series with you and I can't wait for you to start the next.

Anonymous

Whaaat?! I've been planning to search 'that' Christmas-letter-reading episode today and now learned there's nothing?!. 😮 Saaaad..😓

Anonymous

Nicki, Beyonce, Maria Carey, Gwen Stefanie all have names for their fans.

Last winter, Santa Park was full of people. I think it was closed when BTS went there

Mama Shells

Gosh doesn't feel like 2 months lol... enjoyed looking forward to the new episode every Sunday (my time), can't wait for Bon Voyage 2 to come... even though I've watched these for myself, seeing them again through someone else's eyes makes it more interesting & enjoyable 🥰🥰🥰 Thanks DT. Hope you get to go to these places yourself one day...

onlyastarion

also please react the episode 0 of each season, its like an intro.

I can’t wait for you to react to another season 💜💜💜 My fav of all bv series is season 4 🥺 Thank you for sharing this reaction to us 💜

Lmao Yoongi's story about seeing his dad as santa and not really getting into the spirit of it. I was the Santa in my house since I was a kid. I would scrap together whatever little cash I had and get my mom, dad, and little brother gifts from "Santa". I don't think the magic of christmas is in santa, magical reindeers, religion, gifts, or whatever. I think it's just a magical season where everything seems nicer. I hope he at least enjoys it a little bit :)

theGeekOutGirl

Cursive can be pretty if you do it right lol

theGeekOutGirl

Lotte ("low-tay") World is an amusement park in Korea. I remember it from H.O.T.'s "Candy" music video lol.

Angie

names for fandoms is very common lol. I think literally every artist has them. (ex: Taylor Swift is Swifties, Justin Bieber is beliebers, Beyonce is beyhive, Michael Jackson is moonwalkers, etc). Even TV show fans have fandom names, i believe. Not too deep in tv show fandoms but i have seen a few i believe. I think it's just that kpop addresses the names more often. I assume you dont listen to too many artists that say it much, it's more common with pop artists :) this season is so pure and sweet, but season 2 remains my number one favorite so im excited for that one! (2 and 3 are so good omg). I really, really dont like how trainees can be so young. I believe Jihyo from TWICE trained since she was like 10? And didnt debut till she was maybe 18? (can't think of the exact age). Then Chan from Stray Kids had around the same length. He moved from Australia to South Korea and trained for EIGHT YEARS. He said he had to watch his friends leave and never make it, or some friends did leave and debuted, leaving him all alone...he struggled so much mentally. It's disgusting tbh. I think it's fine to have them train young, it's similar to doing sports young or ballet, etc but maybe have different rules. Like you can't move into a dorm till you're 16 or something. Idk. I think most young trainees still live with their parents until a certain age, but it's still horrible.

Angie

Also,J-Hope didnt become a trainee till he was 17. I think he meant he just pushed himself to dance a lot and he was in a dance group before BTS, so he was self-disciplining and training himself. Not a systematic training from a company.

16:20 It's a song from a comedian Christmas carol song, (Shim Hyung-rae, 1984). Since then, other comedians have often parodied it.

Waking up sunday mornings to watch Bon Voyage with you makes my whole day better, thank god there are 3 more seasons. 😃 Season one was filmed in May, as they visited Bergen on the 17. th and that is our national day. Everyone stay safe! See you in Hawai next sunday 😉

Aya

jihyo actually started training at 8 (10 is korean age) and did so for 10 years before debuting.

I'm so disappointed we never got to read those letters! I was especially looking forward to Tae's long one!

Tia Bee

A lot of western pop acts have fandom names -- Beyhive, Beliebers, Little Monsters, Lambs, Directioners. So do TV shows -- Whovians, Gleeks, Sherlockians. Even big franchises -- Trekkies, Twihards, Potterheads. It's not unique to kpop though most (not all) kpop acts have fandom names.

The "trainee system" culture in Korea is really hardcore. But I imagine that outside of Korea, children who become professionals whether it is in dancing (especially classical dancing), gymnastics, piano, etc, also follow very regulated lifestyles that focus on developing their skills and talents. So we can just think that Korea merely formalized this system/culture. Secondly, if these kids weren't living the "trainee lifestyle " they would be living the "Korean student lifestyle". That means studying hard at school then going to evening academies (to learn more advanced math, science, and how to pass exams) then going to self-study rooms or cafes to do homework or study more then finally getting home at midnight. When not studying, all they do is play phone games or spend hours in gaming cafes (they have no hobbies or interests). Korea only cares about preparing kids to enter the job market in the future. Not exactly a happy or liberating childhood, eh? So if you think of it that way, yes being a trainee at a young age is definitely a huge burden to bear but at least it is the child's own "choice", "dream" or "desire" not that of their parents, teachers or society. Once they become a trainee they'll naturally come to realize whether their choice was wrong or right for them.

Jona Manalo

Please react to BTS festa 2019

Jona Manalo

So it means 6 more months for you to finish the whole bon boyage season. They probably won’t have season 5 because of Covid 19.

Elsa

BTS didn't really have the same training process as a lot of other idols do, since bighit is so different from other companies, most of them came there in their teens and trained for only 3 years, Jimin had the shortest training period which was only one year. Jhope was talking about getting into dance at a young age, he didn't see his friends because he was so immersed in his hobby of dancing. Though I think bighit has a watered down version of the training, having the people come in at an age where they can consciously make their own choice and choosing people that are truly passionate about it and not trapping kids who just want to be like the cool people on tv into their company. I still think a lot of companies in Korea take it way too far, SM is a great example. Also, you asked, western artists have names for their fans as well, Beyonce's fans are beehives, Taylor Swift has swifties, Justin Bieber has beliebers and so on. And the choreography they did at the end was the real choreo, just done messily, it was a Twice song called "cheer up".

minsyub

bts are still salty that they didn't get those letters from santa park 😂 btw yoongi lost that christmas spirit at a very young age but Jin's dad dead*ss told him that santa doesn't exist & it's him who give the gifts so he should be nice to him instead 😂😂

Ellie

Thanks so much for reacting to these, I've been looking forward to it every weekend! (also love the John Oliver reference at the start)

I feel like whether the trainee process is a good or bad thing depends on the company, as well as the motivations. Is it the parents forcing their kids into it in order to try to secure some kind of future success for themselves through the hard work of their children? Is being a singer, dancer, Idol, whatever a dream of the child? Does the child feel that they have the autonomy to decide that this isn't actually the right thing for them once they're in it? Also, western societies face similar issues. Except here it's sports. Take football in America... even though there are documented physical, neurological, and psychological risks to playing that sport there are still parents who allow (or in many cases, force) their children to play it at a very young age. The burden of those risks are placed on children, who are not capable of fully understanding them and the vast majority will not become professional or even semi professional athletes.

Yes! Once Covid is under control let's all meet up in Bergen🙂. I'm making a list of places I still want to travel and Norway's on it. Can't wait to watch Bon Voyage 2 with you. It's so fun.

Anonymous

It was girl group choreography-- they danced to Twice's Cheer Up haha. Korean Lesson of the Day: "Santa Claus" Actually, in Korean, they don't call him Santa Claus. They call him 산타할아버지 (santa hal-ah-bo-ji) which means "Grandfather Santa" or "Grandpa Santa" haha. Similarly, Mrs. Claus is "Grandma Santa".

Anonymous

I’m really excited to watch season 2 with you! Until now I’ve only seen seasons 1 and 4. ☺️

Anonymous

this trip was in may 2016. Taehyungs grandmother died about 3 months later. Bts was in the philippines at that time, and tae was devastated when he heard it, but could'nt do anything and continued their schedule. 49 days later he told Army at a concert in Seoul why he had been so down lately, because the fans had noticed and asked him if something was wrong (via twitter e.g)

tina

jimin looks exactly like his dad lmaooooo

I'm a Linkin Park fan... We called our fandom "Soldier"...

The Korean alphabet is actually very easy to learn to read! It was designed that way by King Sejong to encourage education of all classes no matter rich or poor. The tricky part is learning the actually spoken language... But at least you will be able to read!

Anonymous

They are just so precious...

Anonymous

No one really talks about it but we should really point out that BTS since the beginning always think about ARMY in a way or another, I mean look at the card they made here, they wrote ARMY on it. You could think it's a simple and not really important thing but for me, it means and explains a lot lot of things actually.

Anonymous

And that's why my love for them has never been the same for another artist before.

Mya

There are a lot of fandom names for American artists! I didn’t know about it until I was introduced to kpop either tho. It’s just that they don’t really talk about their fan base as much as bts and other idols. But I usually hear Megan calling her fans “hotties” a lot. That’s her fan base name. And Nicki Manaj’s is barbs (I think)

Jovy g

Ahhh wen de said Tony n Nate it's been 2 years I got d chills 😍
