Well, it's been a hot little minute since I've posted a weekly journal, huh? Sorry about that! It was my intent to still do these each week over break, but I suppose that vacation Kool-Aid hits a little different doesn't it? Haha... definitely not because the day job has been an absolute nightmare lately.

I hope you have all been doing well. Got a few updates for you on the backlog and the channel. Let me walk you through the last 3 weeks.

For starters, I finished Mass Effect 1! I've got to say, thank you guys for relentlessly recommending this to me haha. Barring the combat, which I'm told improves a ton in the sequel, ME1 enchanted me. The dialogue was interesting, the voice acting was solid, the worldbuilding felt in a league of it's own. The ending was cheesy and Independence Day as hell, I absolutely loved it lmao. For a game that dropped in 2007, it feels like this game aged beautifully. Haven't felt that about a title since FF7. I will say it did bug me that my romance with Liara got stepped on just because I was "nice" to Ash. But it is what it is. I'm not going back to old save files to redo stuff, a YouTube clip of the scenes I actually wanted will do haha. (which by the way, those scenes?... I was not prepared for haha. You know what they say, once you go blue, you don't know what to do!)  So much fun, so pumped for ME2, gonna play it next year.

After ME1 was finished, a harsh reality set in. This video has to be ready by November, which means I have to produce it in late October. WHICH MEANS I have until late October to finish.... and then it hit me, this is absolutely not getting finished.

And that's fine. But because of that (and because doing this will really open your eyes to what you ACTUALLY care to play) I removed a few games from the list I realized I had no interest in playing.

RIP The Pathless, Scorn, 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors.

No going back. But I did move on and I've been playing a little game called Crosscode, that many of you watched me play on stream!

This game, I shit you not, has dungeons that feel like the best of what some of the older Zelda dungeons had to offer. Put that on top of a jubilant pixel art world that has more life in it than some AAA worlds I've seen, adorable dialogue, a plot that just keeps you leaning in for more, and combat that just gets deeper and deeper, this is a game you genuinely should take a look at. I'm 10 hours in and it just keeps on giving.

I started up The Long Dark. It just didn't grip me. It's a survival game with a little plot going as well, but I just don't think it's for me. Maybe I'm not in the mood, maybe it's that it apparently runs 30 hours and I don't want to play something like that for 30 hours, maybe I'm just in a rush... But my body is rejecting it. Big sad. Might just watch a playthrough at some point.

BUT. Survival horror on the other hand... sounds like a lot of fun. Maybe we play Signalis on stream later this week >:) not Twitch, just for us here on Patreon.

Hey I played bloodborne on stream the other day! If you wanna know how that went, watch the video above.

Yeah this is yet another example of a game that is making me wish I didn't have to rush. Because In this case I want to finish what I started and there's just no way I can do that and hit every other game. So this one is getting baby Moses'd out of here. Gonna return to this next year. If anything, this backlog challenge has really been a buffet where I just taste test a bunch of stuff haha.

Which brings us back to the channel. Because although I am on break, I have upload dates looming and it's time for me to start thinking about topics... and I have found a strange comfort in that. Here are a few I have brewing. Let me know what sounds interesting.

The peace of post-apocalyptic worlds and my story about evacuating for a hurricane

We enjoy media wrong. Being a fan vs a critic.

Is there shame in easy/casual mode?

Fighting games aren't what people think they are

The psychology of dating sims

How Xenoblade only happened because the creator got denied for FF7

Oshi No Ko is about everything.

Now obviously, I'll think of more gripping titles lmao, but these are the thought nuggets. What sounds good? What do you want to see fleshed out into a video?

I hope your week is absolutely perfect. I wish you a bomb ass Wednesday and I'll see you probably later this week or this weekend for a little bit of Signalis :)
