Aight so check it, I'm sick as a dog right now. Fever, cough, headaches, the whole sha'bang. My typing ability is not up to par right now, so I'll keep this brief.

1- I like this one. I was hesitant to talk open worlds because eeeeeveryone has made an open world video. But this research feels like a pretty cool thing I can contribute. Plus despite everyone doing one of these, they always haul in views so that's a plus lmao

2 - I am planning to do a commentary stream next week on an older video, but when that actually happens depends on when I feel better haha. So stay tuned there

3 - Next really is the PoP on anime. I'm pretty excited about it, might even draft up a new "Psych of Anime" logo ;)

4-yeah I think that's it. I hope you enjoy, i felt like I had a strong argument with this one but maybe not as many examples as I would have liked. Say la vee. Or however you spell that. let me know what you think!

Do you like it when a person keeps you from doing what you want to do, do you enjoy when a game limits your options? Probably not. In fact if anything, being told no likely makes you want that thing even more. Today on Psych of Play, were going to take a look at Psychological Reactance and how it affects our time with a game. And more specifically, we’ll take a look at how it influences your time with open world games. Buckle up, this is gonna be a good one. Hi, Daryl! I hope that you're feeling better, and congratulations on getting out such a high quality episode despite not feeling the best. The way that you described internal reactance is exactly why I can't play Skyrim or even Breath of the Wild. There is an aspect of decision paralysis (like the Path of Exile skill tree, LOL), but also a feeling that I'll never be able to pick the "right" answer. That only gets exacerbated when you finally decide to, say, go west in BotW and you end up in the desert. Or you decide you want to climb Death Mountain or get the Master Sword and the game throws up roadblocks. Those situations can quickly feel to me like the worst of both worlds- we're not only going to give you no structure at all, but we'll also punish you for not making the correct decisions. I can't take that. :) It's interesting to consider the role that choice plays in my enjoyment of a game. I tend to prefer having choices that relate to self-expression/character creation, and influence on the narrative in situations where it's appropriate. But in terms of the game experience and world itself, I much prefer a structured, curated narrative and world. Divergent paths are fine, but it has diminishing returns very quickly, and as long as I'm free to be myself within that world and under those circumstances (whoever I've chosen to be for that run :P), that's all the freedom I need.
