Weekly Journal (Feb 21st) (Patreon)

ITS ELDEN RING WEEK BAYBAY.  Which means all this week I'll be keeping busy with work and definitely not distracting myself with related activities... Well, actually it'll be both haha. I'll be doing a lot of writing on the next Psych of Play which is about souls-like games. There will be 0 spoilers in this episode, so we won't be alienating viewers like last time. The tentative release date is March 12th. 

In all seriousness though, I'm extremely excited to be working on this one.  A lot of times I steer into the comedic and darker more twisted topics because they typically get more engagement (see the 4th wall/lavender town/sans wrestling videos) But as a creator, I feel like I'm at my best when I'm making something with an emotional undertone and a positive message which... this one definitely has. Videos like the internet checkpoint, Omori, and Gris are some of my favorites because of how emotionally driven they were. As corny as it may sound, I like to think videos like that help people to feel a little less... alone in the universe  and in turn, that makes me feel like what I'm making... matters, I guess. 

So I'm thrilled to be making this one and I welcome the change of pace. It'll be coming out right in the middle of everyone playing Elden Ring, so that definitely can't harm the performance. OH and let me tell you, the thumbnail for this episode might be the best thumbnail I've ever made. I'd love to show you now, but I'll wait to do so... for dramatic effect ;)

Aaaaaaand... in this weeks episode of Daryl has no self control, I have a confession. I started playing Magic: The Gathering again. Feck.

I haven't played MTG in 10 years... but this set brought me back. I posted some art for it above but BOY, the style of this set has me captivated. Plus, MTG arena is less scary than I thought. I was worried initially that it was like most gatcha games in that you just have to pull over and over until you get what you need for your build. But you get guaranteed wild card pulls with a few random chance ones as well, meaning if you want a particular card, you CAN get it. I haven't spent a dime and I already have almost exactly the deck I want to build, which includes two copies of The Wandering Emperor (the girl in the trailer, she's actually really good, instant speed removal). I'm having fun, which even though in this case won't net me new videos, is exactly what I need right now.
