Anyone else having trouble with the link? It won't play the video on my end.

Yeah this is a great movie. It's so interesting seeing how everything is done - fog's pretty easy to do irl, just dry ice, water, and fans, but the fluidity of everything, the creepiness of Other Mother, and the lack of most modern technology give it a timeless feel. Some fun facts: - Henry Selick directed both Nightmare Before Christmas and Coraline - Neil Gaiman, the author of the original children's novel, was a big part of the movie process, and even encouraged the changes that were made in adapting it. - Coraline is a fun adventure, but it's also a fantastic horror story for children. Gaiman explained that Coraline had taught young readers that “being brave doesn’t mean you’re not scared. It means you’re scared and you do the right thing anyway.” -Laika is owned and ran by Travis Knight, son of Nike co-founder Phil Knight. As such, their movies are focused not so much on profit, but on making as good a film with the medium of stop motion as they possibly can. It's an insanely long and hard process thst most other studios will not do, especially now. What will be really interesting is seeing Laika's future work. Of the five films they've made, Paranorman is my personal favorite, but Coraline and Kubo are incredible as well.

Aaaa, love this movie so much! It’s so creepily interesting, haha. This is my second favorite Laika film. Still hoping you do ParaNorman too for the spooky month. >w<

Great reaction! If no one has suggested it, Monster House and Corpse Bride are good spooky movies for Halloween!

This was super, super neat. I never would have watched this but for your putting it up here, and I agree that it’s by far the best stop/go animation I’ve ever seen. Really neat, and great reaction and commentary as always. Actually, as an aside to your commentary, I would mention that I had a single mom, and I can attest that having that conversation about needing to be busy but still carving out time is really important, because kids don’t understand. I was always told I would understand when I was older…but I think kids “get” more than parents sometimes think they do. So- yeah, I liked that you made that observation.

I know it's been a while since you posted this, but I figured I would answer your question regarding the grandma and doll. People have theorized that the grandma found out what was going on through her sister telling her what she experienced. When she eventually didn't come back, the grandma must've known that the doll was the source (due to the original doll, before being remodelled to look like Coraline, looked like her sister) and was keeping it locked away so that no other children would be taken. The Other Mother CAN summon the doll back to her world, but when she sends it back, it should end up in the same place in the mortal world. Wybie didn't know the significance, so he gave it to Coraline, and when the grandma found out, she freaked, so that's why he was sent to bring it back.
