I’m guessing Jack named his son after his longtime friend Charles Kowalski who died in episode 3. Maybe Kowalski was Jack’s best man when he married Sarah? Maybe he was “Uncle Charles” to Charlie? Those are just theories. When I first saw this episode, I thought it was interesting Sarah looks a lot like Samantha. Also, apparently Teal’c has not been outside the base yet. No wonder what he saw on TV made him want to take the staff weapon with him! At first, I didn’t agree with you about no one noticing “Jack’s” odd behavior. It seemed to me everyone might have been too preoccupied to notice. Plus, the life form was later revealed to be very intelligent and perceptive, even wise, so maybe it was able to throw off suspicion? But as I think about it, there should have been a scene or two where we saw how the life form was able to fool everyone. Although the plot was a little wobbly, this early episode stands out for having a lot of heart and for providing a poignant glimpse into Jack’s back-story and the guilt and pain he carries over Charlie’s tragic death. It kind of explains why Jack is always making jokes – so no one sees how much he is hurting inside.

You're really spoiling us with these two episodes a week right off the bat! This episode shows its age a little bit. I think the emotional parts are still conveyed decently, but I can see what you mean. We get to see a part of Jack that his character would never allow himself to show, and in the same way the resolution between him and Sara would probably never have happened without interference from the clone. It also gave Jack a chance to say good-bye to Charlie and maybe let go of at least a part of the guilt he was carrying.
