THE PLAN (Patreon)
Content
I posted this over on my community tab but wanted to share it here. Also, I wish to start off here saying first off; THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU. Your support here on Patreon has been so incredibly warm and kind, and honestly heartening. It's given me the boldness and strength to continue fighting this, and also recognize greater issues beyond myself that need addressing. You are all amazing, and I know that is pandering to the crowd, but you're the community that I love pandering too haha. You are all wonderful, and I thank you for your kindness. Regardless of whatever happens, remember that community makes us stronger; and that while I'm going to be dealing with some negative stuff, it's the joy we find in others that must always lead the day <3.
============
So I wanted to let everyone know what my plan is for my Matt Walsh video, given its current censoring my YouTube. At the moment, it is still sitting in the appeals process, more then 48 hours after I appealed the decision. This is the longest I've ever seen YouTube take to consider an appeal. For contrast, I also got an age-gate on one of my videos this weekend, and I appealed it, and the appeal was accepted and the age gate removed within 30 minutes. This long wait time for appeal is even MORE interesting considering that I am 100% certain, given my working with contacts at YouTube and Nebula, that my video was prioritized in the appeal process. So it's not just a let's wait on it; this tells me they are actively considering it, or at the very least, are waiting till a workday to have a longer conversation.
I find this intriguing, because it speaks to me that the issue is not cut and dry for them, and may speak to the fact of what I said earlier, that I take issue with this being a community violation. As I said before, if it had been an age-gate, I'd understand, even if I'd disagree. But a community violation angers me, as I take issue with that on numerous levels, as I stated in my recent video. Even more so, talking with folks who have knowledge in such areas, I have an idea of what the issue might have been. It's possible it was what I said it was in my recent video, but there is one more possibility that if that is the case, I HAVE THOUGHTS! I will try to get YouTube to give a confirmation of what was the issue, but more then like, they will just approve or deny the appeal, and leave me guessing.
Either way, the plan moving forward is this. If the appeal gets approved, then yay! The video will be released and all of you can watch it as it is. If the appeal is denied, then I will edit the video of all stuff that MIGHT be the issue (which is frustrating because I will have to edit stuff that might not have even been an issue because I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE ISSUE WAS) and release it on YouTube so folks can see it. I want to make sure this video gets out there because I'm proud of it and I and my editor worked REALLY hard on it, and also I think it is an important subject to discuss. So no matter what, y'all will get to see it, by latest Friday of this week. If you want an uncensored version, or want to watch it ASAP, it is available RIGHT NOW on my Patreon and Nebula. Thank heavens that I am lucky and privileged enough to have these spaces that even if my video is censored by YouTube, it can still be seen. I thank all my patrons and the amazing people at Nebula for supporting me and all creators. I would not be able to do any of this without you.
Further, regardless of how the appeal turns out, I have some issues that I am still livid about, and I will, when I have a chance to actually take a break for at least 24 hours, be making a short (and I actually mean short) about some issues that think YouTube needs to address that have become VERY clear to me due to this event. YouTube is honestly the issue for me. While the reason this was flagged at all was probably due to Matt Walsh fans reporting the video, finding any reason to silence a trans creator speaking out against our harm (so much for the "free speech crowd", but are we really shocked?), but I expect that of them. That's their whole goal. But YouTube has shown some hypocrisy here that I think needs addressing. It's just so clear to EVERY single marginalized creator right now who the "community standards" are upheld for, and who they are not. What is normalized as just "asking questions" and whose bodies are seen as inherently sexual. And this is just one example of many in our culture. So expect that probably sometime next week, after the Walsh video is free on YouTube, as getting that out is my priority for now.
From there, I will be making a much longer video essay about this situation, as it actually ties nicely into a video I have been planning/writing for some time about the transphobic biases of AIs, algorithms, and more. So I'm actually going to expand that essay to include this event. That video will (hopefully) be out by the end of the year, hopefully early December, if not sooner. However, before that, for my own mental health, as I need a break from this nonsense, I'm going to make two fun comedic videos, most likely about Star Trek cause of course. I need to find my joy again, not letting dark situations define me or my channel. And as usually, my Jumpgate podcast and weekly livestreams will continue as scheduled.
That's the plan. I just wanted to be transparent about what the plan is. There may be shifts in this depending on my life and things that come up. But for now, this is the intention.
