Michael Burnham was the first human to attend the Vulcan Science Academy. Uhura was the only Black woman on the Bridge of the Enterprise. Worf was the first Klingon and Nog the first Ferengi to serve in Starfleet. Many marginalized people have experienced being "the first" or "the only" in a room.
