No. No they are not winning. I live in the UK, aka the TERF capital, but all of feminists I know think that anyone who would deny a marginalised group misses the point of feminism entirely. It's intersectional by definition. The bigots who don't believe that are slowly dying out. That's what I believe. At least, that's what I hope.

Deadnaming is always the weird one I don't get. The example I always give is "Michael/Mike". If you meet someone named "Michael" and they say "Call me 'Mike'," then you just ... do. If you keep calling them "Michael," then you're just being an ass, and clearly so. Any name variation falls into this; "John F. Kennedy" was called "Jack". I know a person who goes by their middle name. A friend's middle name is "Margaret" and goes by "Maggie" publicly, and not their actual first name. If there's a legal name change in place, then not only are you an ass, then you're just factually wrong. Sigh - but it's never about accuracy, is it? It's truly about hurting people and "punching down."

I was expecting a video from you on this topic. Thankies. BTW, the tolerance thing is not paradoxical, not really. My favourite philosopher drew the exact same conclusion 75 years ago (having just survived the Third Reich). “Unlimited tolerance must lead to the disappearance of tolerance. If we extend unlimited tolerance even to those who are intolerant, if we are not prepared to defend a tolerant society against the onslaught of the intolerant, then the tolerant will be destroyed, and tolerance with them." - Karl Popper, "The Open Society and Its Enemies" (pub. 1945). Popper actually formulates two 'paradoxes' that are related: the paradox of freedom and the paradox of tolerance. The Open Society is no easy book, but those two concepts are striking in their clarity.

Excellent quote. And yeah, I was basically drawing on Popper without realizing.

Indeed. Deadnaming just proves hwo much it's about harrasment and belittle trans people.

Indeed if you want to know if someone really is arguing in good faith about "accuracy" or "liberty" bring that up.

10:45 you are exactly right. People who want to rid the world of transgenderism wanting to rid the world of us existing is exactly what they are about. The liberty of one person ends where it impinges on the liberty of another. We have a right to name ourselves. That name dictates our pronouns.. We have a right to dress ourselves, or modify ourselves and to live how we want to live. Biological, historical, or sociological reasons we are what we are are irrelevant. Tolerance of anyone who wants to take liberty from another is not tolerable.

I think that's the point where they say "that's different." :(
