I have loved Lower Decks so much, because I've been a Trekkie all my life, and I can see where it is directed toward existing fans, but I'll so happy that the characters developed on their own and by the final episode as much as I laughed myself silly over the Trek references, I love the characters on their own, and I have friends who had drifted away during the DS9 years because they didn't want deep stories as much as they wanted an escape, who have told me Lower Decks has regenerated their enthusiasm for Star Trek and now they're going back to actually watch Discovery before season 3 starts, so I don't know how many new fans it will draw in, but it has pulled in several of my friends who had wandered from the path. ;)
