Is JK Rowling The Victim?

Mystic the Manakete

Personally if she did somehow see my privatised-except-to-friends posts on FB discussing her views and how they harm me, I wouldn’t care if she was hurt and would honestly be satisfied that she at least felt SOME of the pain and betrayal I felt when she included a dog whistle of ‘this condition only affects women, but I’m not going to elaborate on how trans people fit into that since I don’t see them as their actual gender’. I’ve been stewing in this for years, and frankly I would be happy to drop everything if she’d actually learn, apologise, and take back her harmful stance, but it’s far too late for that.

Very well said. The empathy is difficult for me because her power blocks my vision of any pain she might be feeling. In my eyes the bully has always been anyone with power who uses that power to damage or demoralize any persons or groups with less power. With that said, I still can't see her as a victim, but you're totally right, she sees herself as one and that's all that she will see. However, since trans woman are as likely ( more so really) to suffer assault of all kinds as cis women I wish she could see it as a need for women to help women instead of assigning women to subcategories. I struggle with compassion for her. I’m frowning at Eddie today too. I know she’s his “boss” but it still makes me angry.

Hey Jessie- just watched your video. What a very balanced and generous piece that was! I’m a UK trans woman, and I can certainly say they the atmosphere over here is getting toxic- but only really among a certain sector. I’ve been living in role for 18 months now, and I can say that the only place I’ve encountered hostility has been online, or in the media- out in the real world, I’ve had none. Nada. Zip. And that tells me something- that this is a thought bubble that’s getting a moment in the light, but which may not last too long; it tends to be- well, middle-aged feminists who feel that they had to fight so hard for equality that they’re not willing to share it (kinda mitigates against the concept of equality, but this is a non-rational argument...); younger people (and, you know, I’m nigh 60, so I have a generous definition of “younger”) just don’t seem to be bothered on the whole. I agree with you that pile-ons are ABSOLUTELY not the way to win hearts and minds- although rational argument doesn’t seems to work either (I’m sure you know about the difficulties the Mermaids charity has had over here), but we have to try to stay calm and collected online so as not to provide ammunition to the (let’s be nice) gender critical feminists. We can always drink whisky and screw into our pillows later- I’ve already done one of those things today! You’re a good and thoughtful woman- and you have the same name as my Mum, which further endears me to you! LLAP, Meg xxx

PS: what a horrible run-on sentence that was! I blame whisky...
