What up, mini family?!

This week we had something pretty annoying happen. In BTS #19, I talked about the video I was making of a fully uncut blending process from beginning to end with 3 cameras. I shot the whole thing, and edited the whole thing...and then I deleted it before uploading it. Let me explain.

I have a 500GB SSD that I put "in progress" video projects on. That SSD was getting full, as it does, and when that happens I archive stuff to my NAS (network attached storage) which is about 5 TB in size. Premiere Pro has this feature called "Project Manager" which will take the clips on your time line and re-render them in a lossy format to only the parts that you actually used. Often times your recording will be say 1 minute long, and you only use 5 seconds of it. This tool is pretty handy because not only does it back up the source media, but it also reduces the size of the project by only backing up what you used, really handy!

So I was in need of some space so I started to archive some projects to my NAS and I accidentally archived off the Blending video that wasn't published/exported yet. When the archival was done, I deleted the project from my SSD permanently. No big deal, right? Like I said earlier, it saves all the clips on your timeline. Wellllllllllllllll IT DIDN'T! For some reason, Project Manager saved only a select number of the clips, maybe like 10% of them leaving me with a project that was missing practically everything. I found this out Tuesday night and was pretty distraught. I tried to recover the files with recuva and that didn't work. I won't lie, I went to be pretty ticked off. The next morning I re-shot the sequence. Luckily, it's not a hard thing to record as a blend doesn't take more than 30 minutes, but the editing is the part that's annoying. Hilariously on the 2nd recording my hand was blocking the shot of my palette for the entire video so I had to re-shoot it a 3rd time and then re-edit it. Well, luckily that's done and I've finished re-editing the video in time for this week's early release. Woosh.

In other news, I started on an 'eavy metal marine which is getting close to being done.

That's all for now!

PAINT MORE MINIS!

Love, Scott
