The Greek island of Milos is almost completely volcanic in origin. It is largely built out of rhyolite lava and layers of white ash. Although it hasn’t produced a magmatic eruption in ~60,000 years, a phreatic eruption did occur in Roman times. It was witnessed by them, and destroyed a small settlement.
