Nude Byte Extras: October 2023 (Patreon)
Content
For this month, I want to feature an NPC that we've never seen in the game before:
DeevZ!
In Nude Byte, there's a theme for all NPCs: Each of them are bootlegs of existing characters with a trait that's altered.
DeevZ is a (ahem) horizontally-tall version of D.Va from Overwatch.
Yup, we're entering the spoiler zone of the game. She was meant to be hidden for a while until the game was out, but I guess I chose to ruin that fun for money to hire...
DeevZ is a cocky girl who never leaves her fancy gaming chair. As I type this, the writer assigned to her finished her dialogue in its entirety, but I'm yet to edit it.
I instructed the writer to have her talk outdated l33t speaks and memes, but after reading the writer's creation, I guess the writer didn't implement it that much. So lucky for everyone we're not going to cringe from old-school memes. (tsk)
Now, for the next section:
Old concept artworks of the enemies!
This was the very first design I thought of for the enemies.
They look awfully similar to the creepy dolls from the game Ib. Too similar.
So I made them into silhouettes with colorful outlines.
I tried combining Kingdom Heart's enemies with Ib's creepy dolls in this one. And I like it!
However, technical stuff made me have to simplify their designs for lesser polygons. After all, there are going to be a LOT of them on a single map.
And that's how we end up with this design. (Except for the eyes. I liked those creepy eyes at first, but I later got tired of their creepiness and changed them)
When I was designing the Gigabytes, the boss enemies of the game, my first idea was to simply re-design Splatoon 2's Salmon Run Bosses.
These are ideas I have for Steelhead's redesign. I didn't like any of them.
These were some of the other designs I had in mind.
From left to right: Stinger, Goldie, and Steelhead.
But as the development of the game progressed, I later decided not to straight-up copy/paste the enemies. Instead, I became creative and made my own boss enemies.
So all of the designs above were left unused.
Heck, the Goldie one even had a 3D model when I was prototyping it back then:
But I didn't like the complete copy/paste of pretty much everything.
I like the Nude Byte now compared to back then!
And that's all for this month's $5 Tier post! I hope you enjoyed reading them!
