"Hear us sing dis stoopid song!
Sing it as we march along!
Why we sing it we don't know!
We can't get der words to rhyme!"
"Sound off!"     "Wun! Two!"
"Sound off!"     "Tree! For!"
"Sound off!"     "Erm... Wut?"

Traditional Marching Song of the Gormol Legions

The ground trembles. Rocks shudder and leap. Trees topple. Walls crumble. It is not an earthquake, but it might as well be. The armies of the Gormolgoth Overlords are on the march.

Frankly, a natural disaster would probably be the softer option.

The ogur race is one of the oldest in the world. Ogurs are monsters made flesh, towering above most other races, their bodies thickly muscled and virtually immune to discomfort, hyper-aggressive and utterly without compassion for others. Even before the ancient eldarch race had mastered the principles and powers that would elevate them to the height of their golden age, the ogurs blundered about the rocky mountains and muddy hills of the world, hitting one-another with rocks to please their primitive gods. Most ogurs have changed little over the millennia, remaining primitive brutes wandering in nomadic tribes, despoiling the land of game and resources before moving on.

But the Gormolgoth are not most ogurs.

The Gormolgoth Empire is a true civilization, crude but robust and stable. While the majority of its ogur citizens are the brutish simpletons typical of the race, they are managed by a ruling caste of highly intelligent ogur, the Overgrol Nobility. These intelligent ogur wield absolute influence over lower-born ogurs, the Muggrol servant caste and Gormol warrior caste, commanding their unwavering obedience and respect seemingly instinctively. Among the lower ranks of ogurs strength and brute force is all that matters, but even the most towering and aggressive Gormol warriors will obey the Overgrol without question. This all-encompassing control is owed to the considerable arcane mental powers that only the ogurs of the Overgrol enjoy.

While ogurs of other breeds sometimes develop magical talent, this power is especially potent and refined in the Overgrol, who are careful to maintain it with tightly-controlled restrictions on breeding in order to preserve the potency of their noble bloodlines. The mental powers of the Overgrol enable them to dominate others of their race, with the lower born orders of the Gormolgoth having likewise been bred over the centuries to be particularly susceptible to their mental commands. Slaved to the Overgrol's mental dominion, the citizens of the Gormolgoth Empire labor to fulfill their every whim. The nobility operates as the brain of the Gormolgoth, while everyone else is the muscle.

Muggrol ogurs serve as mere laborers, building fantastic castle-dwellings and raising great monuments to the nobility, living in squalor themselves. Those of the Gormol caste who survive their brutal upbringing and grow mighty enough to serve in battle are organized into great armies, outfitted with crude but effective weapons and armor. These warriors make up the Gormol Legions, the crushing hammer of the Gormolgoth. Unproven warriors are ranked as mere Conscripts, while those who survive the brutal warfare of the Gormolgoth rise in rank to become Centurions. The Gormol Legions are directed in battle by Overgrol officers, who can orchestrate frighteningly effective strategies using their keen intellects wedded to the overwhelming might of their heavily armed and armored warriors. The Overgrol think nothing of spending the lives of their subjects cheaply, sending wave after wave of ogur warriors to their deaths if need be to secure victory. There are always more.

In victory, the Gormol Legions ravenously devour the dead and dying, so captives taken in battle are rare. Sometimes the Overgrol will spare prisoners of war if some advantage can be gained selling or trading them back to their people. It is rare for non-ogurs to become slaves, for few races lack the strength to carry out what the ogurs regard as basic chores. Most often, captive soldiers wind up in the arenas, ending their lives in bloodsports for the amusement of the Overgrol nobility.

While all of the Overgrol command the mental powers that let them dominate the lower castes, a certain number also develop true spell-craft, becoming mages known as the Molgothi. Combat-oriented spell-casters join the Gormol Legions, supporting their warrior subjects with potent battle-magics. Of the various Molgothi spell-schools, the most common is that of the Stone-Shapers, ogur-magi that can manipulate earth and stone, making it move wherever the ogur mage wishes. Stone-Shapers can bombard the foe with clouds of heavy boulders, flatten them under mudslides and rockfalls, and even shape rock and stone into giant limbs to pummel their enemies. Some skilled Stone-Shapers can imbue special carved runestones with the magic of other schools, allowing these runestones to provide the Gormol Legions with all manner of magical effects, from stones that generate defensive magical wards to stones that fire blasts of arcane energy like magical turrets.

The ogur race is prone to frequent mutations, and among the Gormolgoth these mutants are typically culled. Some mutants however are tolerated, even prized, particularly the rare two-headed ogurs. In other ogur tribes, such two-headed specimens will typically fight one-another to destruction, being two highly aggressive beings force to unwillingly share a body. The Gormolgoth however have developed the means to teach both minds to work in perfect unison, creating a being with a greater degree of intellect and enhanced mental powers when compared with one-headed specimens. Many of the most powerful and influential of the Overgrol are two-headed, and spell-casting two-headed ogurs frequently rise to great prominence in the empire. The supreme ruler of the empire, the Gorgannon Imperator, is invariably a magically gifted two-head ogur.

When the Overgrol are not overseeing some campaign of conquest or the production of a sprawling stone monument to their personal glory, they will congregate in the many colosseums and arenas built throughout the Gormolgoth empire to entertain themselves with bloodsports. Ogur warriors fight to the death against slave armies, captured beasts, or one-another, while the Overgrol nobility indulge in opulent feasting and gambling, cheering on the bloody spectacles. A gesture as simple as a thumbs down can seal the fates of hundreds of lives during these barbaric games, for the bloodier the spectacle, the more the ogurs like it.

The early history of the empire and the rise of the Overgrol to dominion over their people is carved in stone in the great capitol city of Gorgannon. Legend claims that the Gormolgoth were chosen by the gods to establish dominion over their people, and the gods sent them treasures from the stars that marked them out as rulers. Within the towering fortress-citadel at the heart of Gorgannon, hung about the throne of the Imperator, are four great carved stones, inscribed with sorcerous runes of power made by a hand finer than any ogur of the ancient world could hope to command. Their true origin is a mystery to all but the two-headed Imperator themselves, whose carved stone throne thrums in sympathetic resonance with the power of the four great stones, their twin-mind privy to secrets that would shake the very foundations of the world.

The Gormolgoth Overlords march, leaving nothing in their wake but the bones of their foes and the ruins of their cities, al that opposes them brought low and trampled into the mud.
