How it Works

Self-Esteem
Sims will now have a new invisible motive for self-esteem and self-image. A sim's self-esteem will determine how they react to life's ups and downs as well as affect their emotional and physical and mental wellbeing. Sims life experiences can shape and affect and be affected by their self-esteem. For instance, Sims who are fired can have their self-esteem decline while Sims who get a new job can get a boost to their self-esteem. Sims can do a number of activities to raise their self-esteem including exercise, wellness activities, self-help activities, therapy, and for some Sims, cosmetic surgery can give them an added boost. Therapy and Support Groups are available on the phone under Social menu.

Self-Image
Related but separate from self-esteem is a motive for self-image. As self-esteem ebbs and flows so does a sim's self image. Alternately, as a sim's self-image improves, so does their self-esteem. They feed off of each other. Sim's can have seemingly disparate self-esteem and self-image but in general, they closely mirror each other.

Body Image and Eating Disorders
Sims can develop body image and eating disorders. Sims can develop Body Dysmorphic Disorder, Anorexia, or Bulimia. These disorder will affect their daily lives, their relationships with the mirror and food, their self-image, and self-esteem and in turn, sims with low self-esteem and self-image are more susceptible to developing these disorders. Sims can get help, but not all Sims with the disorders will think they have a problem. Other Sims can ask Sims to get help.

Sims can try to treat their disorders with therapy, medication, self-help activities, wellness activities, support groups, research, and even cosmetic surgery, if they think that's the way for them. Sims who get treatment can after some time go into recovery. It is possible for Sims in recovery to relapse into their old habits. The guilt of both relapse and the shame of the disorder can negatively affect Sim's self-esteem. Sim's in recovery can have minor relapses but can quickly recover if they choose to do so. Sims with these disorders will have unique responses and perspectives to common activities such as working out, eating, and looking in the mirror.

Cosmetic Surgery
Any sim teen and older can sign up for a Cosmetic Surgery Consultation, available on the phone under Entertainment. The sim will go to a clinic for their consultation. If the consultation is successful, the Sim will want to go through with the surgery and will need to choose their cosmetic surgeon (cheap, expensive, celebrity). Results are affected by the choice. If the consultation is unsuccessful the Sim will not want to follow through with the procedure.

Sims have three days to do the surgery after which they lose their appointment.
Very Important: Before sending your sim to surgery, make sure testing cheats are enabled and that you have used the cas.fulleditmode cheat else you will not be able to edit your sims face or body. To bypass this, you can download the TwistedMexi mods in #4 of the instructions.

Surgery lasts about 3-4 hours. Surgery can be successful and Sims are generally pleased with the results of successful surgery whereas if the surgery is unsuccessful Sims can experience embarrassment. Sims with eating disorders or body image disorders can have different emotions based on the surgery which can change the longer they live with it. After surgery, Sims will receive pain medication to manage their pain and finish their recovery at home. Recovery time is about 5 days, 3 in a recovery center and 2 at home, and Sims will be unable to go to work.

Automation and Cheats
Upon loading a household and the mod for the first time, each sim child-elder is randomly assigned self-esteem and self-image. They can also be randomly assigned a body image or eating disorder. Like my other mods, you can cheat your sim's self-esteem, self-image, and a body disorder or eating disorder by shift+clicking on your sims (make sure testing cheats is enabled).

Compatibility

Installation Instructions

1. Install the adeepindigo_gameplaymods_selfimage_core package and script. It's the core required file for this mod.

2. If you want all features of the mod, install all modules. Otherwise, only install the modules for features which you want in your game.

3. Lumpinou's Mood Pack is required for the mod to work

4. TwistedMexi's Always Testing and Always Full Edit Mode aren't necessarily required but are highly, highly, highly recommended if you intend to do Cosmetic Surgeries otherwise you will have to manually enable testing cheats and fulleditmode before surgery.

Packs

Base Game compatible though see note below.

Note: The medications in the mod uses an animation from Spooky Stuff, but it is not required. The animation will just be missing.

Credits: Thanks so much to DaleRune for the base for the Anorexic and Bulimia disorders.

Thank you, but I don't see the option for therapy on the phone, as I described. I see an option for family therapy via the Family therapy mod, and an option for the Eating Disorders Support Group- these are the ONLY options on my sims phone that come close to "therapy". I have sent my sims to both of these and no option for medication exists? If there is supposed to be a different option for therapy than these mentioned, please specify exactly where on the phone menu it is supposed to be , because I have searched the phone menus multiple times and only see those options.

adeepindigo

I'm confused. It says right there - the last line under Self Esteem as well as in my original reply to your original message. Sim has to have a reason for therapy (one of the body disorders or low self-esteem). There's no just for the fun of it therapy option and get medication option.

Frezja1728

I have the same problem. I see only Support Group and Chat with Nutritionist. My Sim has got a Bulimia Trait. Also with option: "Check Appearance in Mirror" I have an issue. Sim has got a icon with this activity, but he can't do anything, and then this option disappear.

This specific problem happens to me as well. My sim tries to check their appearance in a mirror, but waves their hand as if they can't access the mirror. Also, a lot of times the prompt comes up where my sim realizes they have to do something to help themselves. I always choose therapy but it doesn't allow me to go to therapy; not sure why.

I have a sim with anorexia, there is no option for these things on the phone, under the social menu or anywhere else on the phone menu.. What will it take for you to believe this is a real problem I am reporting, and others are reporting as well?Would you like screenshots of every phone menu item? I am happy to prove it to you.. It is not there.

adeepindigo

Please reread my response to you, "I'm confused. It says there in the last line under self-esteem as well as my original reply". Now please reread the response you just wrote to me.

Frezja1728

I sent you DM regarding Sim Image. I will be grateful for your reply.

Sam D.

The options are now there after the most recent update. They are in the places I had searched, as you described- they simply had not been showing up prior to this update.Glad you did the update. Thanks!

hi! i noticed my sims lose self-esteem when they have woohoo. is this a bug or a feature? thanks!

Anonymous

I went to therapy and got medication but it wont let my sim take the medication how do i take the medication?

Anonymous

I dont know about others but most if not all my sims end up with an eating disorder i dont know if there is a setting that can reduce the number of sims who gets them?

Jxyvrs

OMG yes thank you; I was talking to my bf how someone should make a mod about eating disorders & disorders in general and when I saw that you made one, this just made my day. Thank you!

Ashley stevens

Did this replace self image?

Anonymous

The mod is not working properly: - When I click on “Choose self image level” under the “self-images” cheats tab the options that appear are focused on high school popularity. - Cosmetic surgery does not allow you to change the body type of face. Only allows you to change outfits, makeup etc.

How does one know if their sim has high or low self-esteem or self image? There are no indindications when playing with the mod.

adeepindigo

There are; there's two notifications at the beginning after the mod is loaded when you enter the game into a household. If you need mod support, my discord server is linked in the mod index.

adeepindigo

You need to have testing cheats on and full edit mode enabled. Or alternatively TwistedMexi's mods.

KatoPotato

How do you remove an eating disorder? There are cheat options to add them, but I dont want ALL my sims to have disordered eating

Chevaun Deluca

My sim is stuck at recovery center from getting cosmetic surgery. Is there a way to get her back?

Chevaun Deluca

Nevermind! She came back, took a little longer than expected.

KatoPotato

A notification told me my sim can see a nutritionist for their eating disorder, but how do I access this option? I cannot find it?

Anonymous

i love the concept of this mod however every single one of my sims gets some sort of eating disorder and its really difficult to recover from it x

adeepindigo

What version of the mod do you have? The updated version has had several tweaks in which this was included

KatoPotato

Thanks, under which option? It doesn't come up in healthcare services and I cant see it as its own option.

Anonymous

Thank you for all you do! I know you work so hard and we appreciate it greatly!

Sam D.

Where do the medications come from? Also, is the therapy needed for this the therapy from the Family Therapy mod, or is it separate? If so, where is that located to access?

adeepindigo

they're literally in the zip? the therapy's under social (though it will be moving to my pie menu on update)

Sam D.

I'm sorry, I meant where do we locate the medications in game? Are they in Build /Buy and if so how tagged? Or do we order them somehow via the phone or computer ( I looked on the phone, did not see any)? Not sure how to locate these either. I have checked that they are in the folder in game. I also don't see anything labeled therapy on the phone in the social tab. I see the nutritionist there, and the ED support group- is the latter what you mean by therapy? Or am I missing something?

Anonymous

ive re downloaded as i removed it so not sure what version i had. just too say you are by far my favourite modder thank you for making my game amazing xx

adeepindigo

The Sim's inventory after they are prescribed. So pain meds after cosmetic surgery and antidepressants after therapy.

theresa

i have been DYING for a mod like this, thank you so much for making it possible. <3
