In case you don't "watch" me on DeviantArt: I've recently become obsessed with a story that I'm collaborating with "Pumpmonger" on, that will unite my OCs Tetsuko and Sonya with his creation, the epic-fantasy warrior woman known simply as "Red".

Tetsuko and Sonya will be ripped out of their time, and dropped into a past of barbaric splendor and constant peril! There, they meet the flame-haired warrior Red the paladin and her companion, the ronin Keiko.

It will be an epic saga - it'll have to be to contain even half the ideas Nick and I have exchanged! Perils and adventures will abound; in one email Nick compared Tetsuko's adventures in the past to The Odyssey, in that Tetsuko is tossed from danger to danger as she tries to find her way home.

I've been doing sketches, and roughing out comics pages to flesh out ideas, even for ideas we might not use. There's one scene in particular I got excited about, and it's inspired by a trope seen frequently in the 1960's Italian "sword and sandal" or "peplum" movies: the hero chained between horses, chariots or even (in one movie) elephants, and must depend on his immense strength to avoid having his arms torn off! (Fact is, one of the things that has me excited about this project is that I'd watch these movies like Son of Hercules in the Land of Darkness and Hercules Against the Moon Men and imagine Red or Tetsuko as the hero(ine), performing the strength feats and overcoming the death traps.)

I posted the sketch above in my "scraps" at my DeviantArt gallery as a "teaser" for not only the scene, but the overall story.

So this time it's Tetsuko, in an arena, chained between… well, I haven't revealed that yet. But YOU'RE about to find out!

Attached to this post is a PDF containing seven pages of roughs of such a scene. The story surrounding it hasn't been written yet, but we're including this scene in close to this form in the overall arc.

I'd love to know what you think; so please leave a comment below!

That looks pretty freakin cool. Can't wait to see how it continues. I don't mind that it's just a sketch for now. :)

oooh i'm loving the premise. Nice to see other scenarios they get themselves into.

I'm a big fan of your heroines/super heroines in peril artworks, so teaming that with high adventure? I'm sold! d('-' )
