June news (Patreon)
Content
Cemu 1.8.1 is scheduled to release on Friday, 23th June for 5$+ Patrons and a week later for everyone else.
Here are the changes that you can expect for 1.8.1:
- Graphic improvements (see this gallery for some examples)
- AMD shadow bug fixed
- Improved compatibility
- Socket API support (details below)
- Tweaks and bugfixes for the software keyboard
- Various smaller changes and bugfixes
Improved compatibility
As of writing this, these titles now boot and run in Cemu 1.8.1:
- Darksiders Warmastered Edition
- Wii U web browser
- YouTube app
As always, compatibility related changes are never game specific. So there is a chance that more games are booting or that some other bugs were resolved and we simply haven't located them yet. With that in mind, please consider submitting your test results to the compatibility list or wiki once 1.8.1 is out!
In other news, there is now a text file where we publicly track notes and info in regards to compatibility problems. It is a technical version of the already existing compatibility list, aimed towards helping us organize compatibility problems in order to find the most efficient way to solve them. The list can be found here.
Support for socket API
This release of Cemu adds support for the BSD socket API. In other words, Cemu now supports the most basic way for an application to access the internet.
But before you get too hyped: Online functionality for games is still far away. For the browser and YouTube app the socket API is enough but games usually utilize a multitude of complex network libraries that are difficult to emulate.
Wii U browser
Here are a few screenshots taken from the browser running within Cemu:
Using the Browser in Cemu is arguably a bit useless. Nevertheless, for us it still is a big deal. The web browser is one of the most complex pieces of software that exist on the Wii U. Running it in Cemu is proof that the emulator is becoming quite robust and somewhat feature-complete. It's a small success on the way to 100% compatibility.
Software keyboard improvements
We made some minor adjustments to the software keyboard. In some games pressing Enter to confirm the typed text had no effect. Examples where this bug occurred were registering a horse in BotW or creating a savegame in Assassin's Creed 4. In 1.8.1 this issue is fixed. Additionally, the problem where sometimes keyboard input would not be recognized at all should hopefully be fixed as well.
