A few thoughts on the state of the music industry

Hello Tim I was able to see you in Switzerland on your tour and first of all sorry for the somewhat quiet audience.... But well - I have paid for the ticket 35 dollars ?? I was really wondering how this is going to work .... The concert would have been worth three times as much to me in any case - at least !!! The music industry does one thing - but when I see what Taylor Swift or Elton John charge for their tickets, I also wonder where the solidarity is among female artists.... Both could still have a hot meal every day even with a third of the price, right ? It's really a shame... have you ever thought of doing a concert where you call out the "true" price ? I would be interested to know what it would be and if tickets would be sold. Greetings from Switzerland - Michael

It's called capitalism Offer and demand There is a far higher demand for Taylor Swift or Beyonce or Helene Fischer tickets than for extreme metal bands with a violin, artists charge what people are willing to pay That's why bands like NeO use Patreon🤷‍♀️

I was wondering if Persefone won’t get insurance money from the transport company who lost their gear. I am happy to hear the EU tour was this successful, and it’s a pity the risen prices cut into your income. In regards of the industry I guess all we can do is invest in tickets and merch of smaller artists we like that the industry isn’t to favorable of. Which in your case means keep doing what we’re doing here. I have no idea how to break the cycle.

I do enjoy hearing these behind the scenes look at band economics and the problems right now. Inflation is hitting every single industry but damn musicians are getting it bad between merch cuts and younger bands getting little opportunity (never mind free gigs, more wanting you to pay the promoter), and it feels like the opportunity to do big tours is only obtainable for those with large sums available to invest or able to get loans to cover it (I know one band still paying off a loan from nearly a decade ago to tour the US). Hopefully we'll see more collective action by bands to stop squeezing what little funds are available out of them.
