He called a taxi from his hotel in Frankfurt, told the driver his friends were picking him up, and was never heard from again. It was a big thing. I think I’ll register for HEMA training, just in case.”

⭐⭐ Novel idea, sloppy execution

REVIEWED AT: Chapter 65 – Friends Are Awesome

BY nemesi8s5/29/2024, 6:23 AM

I read it until chapter 65.

The idea is good, and I really gave many chance to the story, just because of the pretext. But the writing itself is repetitive and basic.

The dialogs are strange and forced, nobody talks like that. It is like they are there strictly to provide information, and when the information is conveyed the dialog ends.

The characters do not act like themselves. They act against their basic motivation all the time.

At least the grammar is good.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Slice of life bliss

REVIEWED AT: Chapter 54 – I Think I’m Good at This

BY JJB4335_80_8155/14/2024, 2:19 PM

I'm loving this story about John, who after his single mom passed away had to grow up in the foster system in America. Unfortunately that's not the end of his sadness but after he loses his wife to cancer finds out that he can travel to other worlds.

The great thing about John is that he just doesn't dive right in, but actually PLANS ahead instead of doing the stupid trope of wild abandon adventures. The magic system is unique, especially how stats for things like strength have both a physical AND a mental component to them.

The story does start out slow with John mainly keeping his own countenance, but eventually he does have actual conversations with others. He eventually gains a familiar which he names Stretch aka Rue. Also, he meets a fellow Gate Traveler but even before that there's a forum (of sorts) shared by all Gate Travelers AND there are Short Stories which provide some entertainment and a different perspective. I just really enjoy this story!

Incredible story with Great flow!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ REVIEWED AT: Chapter 21: My Second Local Contact

BY Jade_Storm7/1/2024, 4:08 AM

I believe these reviews sometimes show where I'm at in the story, so to let other readers know, I have read up to chapter 97 when not signed in.  Now onto the review.

This story delves into the emotions felt by the main character without overdoing it.  We get to see a corresponding growth that I'm sure many made connections to before it was revealed in the story.  There was more to it which I hadn't guessed at, but I don't want to spoil things.

The story has a very good flow.  Additionally, the time with the main character being alone as well as spending time with travel companions is nicely spaced out to not be too much or too little in my opinion.

I would originally gripe about the side stories interrupting the flow, but as you learn later on how they interact with the main character, I'm not so bothered by it now.

I'm seeing so much of the authors skill and wishing I could integrate some of it into my own novel here.  But, everyone has their own talents, and it gives us something to strive and work towards.

I guess I need to add more words for the minimum 200 word count.

Overall, style, story, grammar, and character scores each definitely deserve 5 stars.  I would give more if I could to better counter-balance the scores of those which cannot appreciate skilled work.  But life is full of unfairness.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fun travel adventure

This story was just what I needed.  It isn't full of combat or high-pressure scenes.  Instead, it is a relaxing story about traveling, meeting new people, and learning new things without worrying about luggage, language, and fitting in.  Less horrible apocalypse a more magical hike on the Appalachian Trail.  It reminds me a bit of the summer I spent during University, biking around Europe.

⭐⭐ Great Premise, inconsistent MC

REVIEWED AT: Chapter 21 – My Second Local Contact

BY Chakwak6/26/2024, 4:32 PM

The premise of story is great. The rythm is slow but it's expected and we are told beforehand.

The start has some exposition heavy characters but they are tolerable due to the uniqueness of the MC situation.

However, it is really hard to follow or understand the MC. Gis behavior, attitude and intellect are all over the place.

One moment he will be a genius at the new magic stuff and the next chapter he'll be a bumbling fool.

One moment he'll worry about morality but not the next action.

He spends countless time working on new skills  has years of studying behind him and experience in a stressful environment. A couple chapters later, he gets very frustrated at not managing something the first time he tries it while in a perfectly calm state.

He also forgets OP Skills a couple of days or week after unlocking and using them.

It might get smoothed up later on but I might not reach it.

 Reddit Discussion

Should the MC Take the Bard Class? Subreddit: r/FantasyRolePlay Thread: Should the MC in "The Integration of Earth into the Mana System" take the Bard class?

User: LoreMaster9000: "I think the MC should definitely take the Bard class. Bards have a unique ability to inspire and rally people, which could be crucial in worlds with different levels of mana."

User: ManaMage88: "Bard class could be interesting, but wouldn't the MC be better off with a cooking class? He loves to cook, after all."

User: SongbirdSerenade: "Don't underestimate the Bard! Their ability to manipulate emotions and boost allies could turn the tide in any battle. Plus, the MC already has a good amount of charisma, which fits perfectly with the Bard class."

User: PracticalPrepper: "He should take a Magitech class. Come on people, if it was good enough for Lis, it should be great for the MC."

User: StorySeeker: "I think the Bard class would add a lot of depth to the story. The MC's journey could involve not just physical battles, but also cultural and emotional ones. A Bard could navigate those complexities better."

User: TruthSeeker101: "Guys, I know it sounds crazy, but what if this story is actually a warning? The level of detail is uncanny."

User: PreparedForAnything: "Real or not, it doesn't hurt to be prepared. I'm stocking up on supplies, just in case."

User: SkepticAl: "You're all being ridiculous. It's clearly fiction. There's no such thing as mana or magic."

User: MaybeNotCrazy: "I've been feeling strange lately, like there's some kind of energy in the air. What if the mana waves are already starting?"

Despite the general consensus that the story was fictional, a handful of readers couldn't shake a nagging feeling that there might be some truth to it. Across the globe, a quiet wave of preparation began among those who decided to get ready, just in case. The ones that took the preparations seriously even gained classes early, when the mana reached level 9, before the actual integration began.

Japan

In a small apartment in Tokyo, Kenji Nakamura, an IT specialist by day and a devoted LitRPG fan by night, read the story with growing intrigue. As he finished the final chapter, he leaned back in his chair, deep in thought.

"Better safe than sorry," he muttered to himself. Over the next year, Kenji's preparation intensified. He joined a local Kendo dojo and trained rigorously, quickly advancing through the ranks. His apartment transformed into a miniature survival center, complete with a water filtration system and a small indoor garden.

Kenji began stockpiling non-perishable food, bottled water, and basic medical supplies. He even invested in a small generator and started practicing kendo more rigorously, just in case mana beasts and monsters turned out to be real.

Kenji's friends laughed when he mentioned the story, dismissing it as a wild fantasy. But Kenji couldn't ignore the feeling in his gut. Every morning before work, he spent an hour practicing kendo, visualizing how he might fend off a mana beast if the need ever arose. On weekends, he took long hikes into the mountains, mapping out potential escape routes and safe havens.

As months passed, Kenji also began studying ancient Japanese texts on Ki energy, wondering if they might hold clues about manipulating mana. He practiced meditation techniques, hoping to heighten his awareness of any changes in the world around him.

One evening, as Kenji practiced his kendo moves, he got a message that he had become more than just a hobbyist. He was now a Kendo Swordsman, a master of close combat with a keen sense of strategy and precision. His swordsmanship, combined with his methodical preparation, made him ready for any challenge that might come his way.

Brazil

In Rio de Janeiro, Lucas Silva, a lifelong fan of fantasy novels, found himself unusually moved by the narrative. As he read the last page, he glanced around his modest apartment, filled with books and gaming consoles.

"This might be a sign," he thought. For the next 18 months, Lucas dedicated himself to becoming an urban survival expert. He began to take practical steps to prepare, attending martial arts classes and learning how to grow his own vegetables on his balcony. He also started a small online group with like-minded fans to discuss and share survival strategies, blending fiction with practical advice.

Lucas transformed his entire apartment into a vertical garden, even creating a small aquaponics system. He trained rigorously in Capoeira and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, believing that these martial arts would be effective against potential monsters or mana beasts. Lucas also started a popular YouTube channel sharing urban gardening tips, subtly preparing others for a possible mana integration scenario.

Lucas's family was puzzled by his sudden interest in gardening and self-defense. "You've never been into this stuff before," his sister, Maria, pointed out.

"I just think it's good to know these things," Lucas replied. He didn't mention the story, knowing they would think he was being ridiculous. Instead, he focused on building a community of like-minded individuals who shared his cautious optimism about the future.

Lucas's efforts soon paid off, and he found himself becoming an Urban Gardener. This unique class combined his newfound passion for gardening with martial arts, making him adept at self-sufficiency, plant-based magic, and close-quarters combat, ready to face any challenge in the urban jungle.

United States

In a rural town in Texas, Emily Thompson, a high school teacher and avid fantasy reader, was engrossed in the story. She finished it in one sitting, her mind racing with possibilities.

"Even if it's just a story, it doesn't hurt to be ready," she reasoned. Emily's journey took two years of dedicated preparation. She started storing canned goods and bottled water in her basement. She also attended local workshops on herbal medicine and foraging, skills she had always been curious about but never pursued until now.

Emily spent her summers attending wilderness survival courses and studying herbal medicine with Native American healers. During the school year, she incorporated survival skills into her teaching, organizing field trips focused on nature connection and basic outdoor skills. Emily also became a certified first responder, prepared to handle medical emergencies in a post-technology world.

Her husband, Mike, was supportive but skeptical. "I get it, Em. But don't you think you're taking this a bit too seriously?"

"Maybe," Emily admitted, "but I'd rather be over-prepared than under-prepared." She continued to stockpile supplies and practice her new skills, quietly confident that she was making the right choice.

As she honed her skills in herbal medicine and foraging, Emily became a Herbalist Ranger. This new class allowed her to blend her knowledge of natural remedies with survival skills, making her a formidable force in the wilderness, ready to heal and protect.

Hawaii

Keoni stared at the screen, unsure of what to think. His mind was completely blank and stunned. When he met Al, he thought their relationship was special both personally and physically. He was devastated when Al decided to continue sailing with his friends instead of staying in Hawaii to see if they could build a future together.

He confided in his best friends, Kai and Ilani, about Al and his two friends, John and Maya, and their giant dog, Rue. Two weeks ago, Ilani sent him a link to an online story and insisted he read it. After reading a few chapters, he told her he didn't want to continue; it wasn't his style. He preferred Robert Ludlum and John Grisham, not some weird fantasy with numbers and levels. Ilani insisted that he keep reading. As he read the chapter where John rescued Mahya, alarm bells began to ring in his mind, but their ringing was still gentle.

When he read the chapter where John and the gang arrived in Austria to meet Alfonsen, the warning bells grew louder. He tried to convince himself that there was no way it could be real and that he was imagining things. But when he read the chapter about Hawaii, he had to admit, at least to himself, that these were the same people. He remembered that conversation word for word.

The thought that he had sex with an alien prince blew his mind. He didn't know what to think. He sat in front of the computer, staring at the screen, his mind completely blank.

After he recovered from the shock, and following a long conversation with Ilani, they decided to heed the warning and start preparing. Kai initially thought they were crazy but agreed to cooperate. All three of them enrolled in self-defense classes; he and Mike took up sword fighting, Ilani enrolled in archery, and they all took first aid and every workshop they could find in the medical field. They also stocked on food, water, and first aid supplies.

South Africa

In Johannesburg, Thabo Mokoena, a software developer, couldn't stop thinking about the story's implications. He was a rational person, but the tale resonated with him on a deeper level.

"I'm not saying it's real, but I can't ignore it either," he confided to his wife. Over the next two years, Thabo invested in a small plot of land outside the city, where he began to build a simple, self-sufficient cabin. He learned about sustainable farming practices and began to stockpile essential supplies, ensuring his family could be safe if the unthinkable happened.

Thabo's preparation went beyond physical readiness. He applied his software development skills to create offline systems that could help organize resources and coordinate community efforts in a post-technology world. He also studied permaculture and renewable energy, determined to create a truly sustainable living space.

Thabo's colleagues at work were amused by his newfound hobby. "Building a doomsday bunker, Thabo?" they joked.

"Just a little place to get away from it all," he replied with a smile, keeping the real reason to himself.

Thabo's dedication to building a self-sufficient cabin and sustainable farming earned him the class of Sustainable Pioneer. This class focused on creating and defending sustainable communities with practical and combat skills, making him a leader in any survival scenario.

Russia

In Moscow, Anya Petrov, a competitive fencer, read the story with a mixture of fascination and skepticism. As she discussed it with her friends, she found herself increasingly drawn to the idea of being prepared.

"Why not be ready for anything?" she thought. Over the course of 18 months, Anya started training harder, incorporating survival skills into her routine. She also gathered supplies and created a detailed plan for what to do in various emergency scenarios, blending her athletic discipline with practical preparedness.

Anya's training regimen expanded to include not just fencing, but also a variety of martial arts and tactical combat techniques. She studied military strategy and urban survival, believing that her skills as a fencer could be adapted to defend against both human threats and potential monsters.

Her coach noticed the change in her training. "You've been more focused lately, Anya. What's going on?"

"Just trying to be the best I can be," she replied, keeping her true motivations private.

Anya's fencing expertise and survival planning made her a Combat Strategist. This class excelled in both physical combat and tactical planning, always ready for any challenge that might come her way, blending strength with strategic thinking.

India

In a bustling neighborhood in Mumbai, Ravi Sharma, a software engineer and fantasy enthusiast, read the story with a sense of wonder. The vivid descriptions and intricate plot captivated him, but a small part of him couldn't help but wonder if there was some truth to it.

"I know it's just a story, but what if?" he mused. Over the next two years, Ravi began to stockpile basic supplies—food, water, medical kits—and took up yoga and meditation to prepare his mind and body. He also joined a local martial arts dojo, honing his skills just in case.

Ravi's preparation intensified over the next two years. He delved deeper into the study of yoga and meditation, exploring ancient texts that spoke of manipulating inner energies. He wondered if these practices might help him tap into mana, should it become a reality. Alongside his spiritual pursuits, Ravi continued his martial arts training, focusing on disciplines that emphasized balance and energy flow.

His friends noticed his new routine. "You've changed, Ravi. What's with all the prepper stuff?"

"Just a new hobby," he replied, keeping his true thoughts to himself. In secret, Ravi began developing a meditation app that incorporated elements from the story, disguising it as a fantasy-themed relaxation tool.

Ravi's combination of martial arts, yoga, and meditation practices evolved into the Mystic Martial Artist class. This unique blend of physical prowess and spiritual and mental fortitude made him ready to face any challenge with calm and strength.

Australia

In Sydney, Emma Davis, a graphic designer and avid reader, found herself drawn to the story's rich world-building and complex characters. As she finished the last page, she felt a strange mix of excitement and unease.

"What if it's true?" she wondered. Over the course of 18 months, Emma began to take practical steps to prepare, learning first aid and basic survival skills. She also invested in camping gear and started planning weekend trips to practice her new skills.

Emma's graphic design skills came into play as she created detailed maps of Sydney and its surroundings, marking potential safe zones and resource locations. She also designed infographics on survival techniques, sharing them online under the guise of fantasy-inspired art.

Her roommate, Sarah, was skeptical. "You're really taking this story to heart, huh?"

"Maybe a little," Emma admitted, "but it can't hurt to be ready for anything."

Emma's graphic design skills and survival training transformed her into a Survivalist Artist. This class used creativity and practical skills to adapt and thrive in any environment, blending artistic talent with survival expertise.

Canada

In a quiet suburb of Toronto, Aiden Campbell, a college student and avid gamer, couldn't stop thinking about the story. He loved the idea of a world infused with mana and filled with adventure, but he also felt a growing sense of urgency.

"Better to be safe than sorry," he thought. Over two years, Aiden began stockpiling supplies and learning new skills, from cooking to wilderness survival. He also started a blog to share his preparations and connect with others who felt the same way.

Aiden's gaming experience led him to approach his preparation like leveling up a character. He created a detailed skill tree for himself, setting goals in various areas like foraging, first aid, and self-defense. He joined a local archery club and took up parkour, believing these skills might be useful in a mana-integrated world.

His parents were puzzled by his sudden interest in survivalism. "Where is all this coming from, Aiden?"

"Just something I read," he replied, not wanting to worry them.

Aiden's love for gaming and survival knowledge shaped him into a Survival Scholar. This class combined intellectual prowess with practical survival skills, always seeking to understand and master the world around him, ready for any challenge.

As time passed, these individuals continued their preparations, each driven by a mix of caution and excitement. They formed online communities, sharing tips and theories about how the world might change if the story came true. Some dismissed them as overzealous fans or conspiracy theorists, but they remained undeterred.

Then, on a seemingly ordinary Monday in July, everything changed.

The day of the Integration arrived without warning. Mana waves swept across the globe, rendering all technology useless. Lights flickered out, machines ground to a halt, over three thousand planes fell from the sky, and the world plunged into a new era where mana reigned supreme. In the wake of the technological collapse, the true believers who had prepared themselves began to rise, each uniquely equipped to navigate the transformed world.

In Tokyo, Kenji Nakamura's preparation proved invaluable. His apartment became a safe haven for his neighbors, with its stored supplies and sustainable systems. Kenji's Kendo skills allowed him to fend off panicked looters and dangerous mana beasts. He organized his apartment complex into a defensible community, teaching others basic survival and combat skills.

As chaos engulfed the city, Kenji's calm demeanor and strategic mind made him a natural leader. He established a network of lookouts and organized regular patrols, using his knowledge of the local area to create safe routes for foraging and scouting missions. His study of Ki energy proved unexpectedly useful as he found he could sense and manipulate the new mana energies, albeit in a limited way.

When the first wave of mana hit Hawaii, Keoni, Kai, and Ilani were ready and at the forefront of the island's defense. When monsters started emerging from the sea and onto the shore, they fought them, and Ilani took care of all the wounded. She earned the Healer class, Keoni got the Swordsman class, and Mike became a Protector.

Every day, Keoni thanked God that he had met Al, a meeting that had prompted him to prepare. Even though sometimes he still had a small flinch in his heart at the thought of "what if?"

In Rio de Janeiro, Lucas Silva's urban garden became a lifeline for his neighborhood. His aquaponics system provided a sustainable source of fish and vegetables, feeding hundreds. His martial arts skills and physical fitness made him an effective defender against both human threats and monsters. Lucas's YouTube followers, who had learned from his urban gardening tips, were also better prepared, creating a network of resilient communities across Brazil.

As an Urban Gardener, Lucas discovered he could accelerate plant growth and enhance crop yields using mana. His balcony garden expanded to cover entire buildings, turning the concrete jungle into a literal urban jungle that provided food, medicine, and even natural defenses against threats. His Capoeira and Jiu-Jitsu skills, infused with mana, made him a formidable protector of his community.

In rural Texas, Emily Thompson's herbal knowledge and wilderness skills made her an indispensable leader. She organized her community to create large-scale gardens and taught essential survival skills. Her first-aid training saved numerous lives in the chaotic first weeks. Emily's school became a community center, where she and other teachers educated both children and adults on thriving in the new mana-based world.

As a Herbalist Ranger, Emily found that her connection to nature was heightened by the presence of mana. She could now create potent healing potions and protective charms using local plants and mana infusion. Her foraging expeditions became legendary, as she could sense the presence of useful plants and avoid dangerous mana-mutated creatures.

In Johannesburg, Thabo Mokoena's sustainable cabin became a model for post-Integration living. He organized his neighbors to create similar structures, forming a network of self-sufficient homesteads. His software skills were repurposed to create a manual system for tracking resources and coordinating defense against monsters, crucial for the community's survival.

In Moscow, Anya Petrov's combat skills and strategic mind were crucial in defending the city against the initial chaos. She organized a militia of former athletes and martial artists, creating a formidable force against human raiders, monsters, and mana beasts. Her detailed emergency plans helped coordinate evacuation and resource distribution, saving countless lives.

As a Combat Strategist, Anya's fencing skills evolved into a mana-enhanced fighting style that was both beautiful and lethal. She could now create energy barriers and launch mana blasts from her blade, making her a one-woman army. Her tactical acumen, combined with her new abilities, made her an unparalleled leader in the defense of Moscow.

In the dense urban environment of Mumbai, Ravi Sharma's calm leadership was a stabilizing force. He organized meditation sessions to help people cope with the stress and potentially tap into the new mana energies. His martial arts skills were used to train a community defense force, while his software expertise was applied to creating new systems of organization in the post-technology world.

Ravi's Mystic Martial Artist abilities blossomed in the mana-rich environment. He found he could enter a state of heightened awareness, sensing mana currents and predicting threats before they materialized. His martial arts, infused with mana, became a dance of energy that could heal allies and repel enemies.

In Sydney, Emma Davis's creative problem-solving skills were invaluable in helping the city adapt. She designed innovative solutions for water purification and food storage. Her camping experience helped in organizing temporary shelters for displaced people. Emma's artistic skills were also used to create visual guides for survival techniques, which were distributed throughout the city.

As a Survivalist Artist, Emma discovered she could infuse her creations with mana, bringing her designs to life in unexpected ways. Her maps became interactive, updating in real-time to show safe routes and danger zones. Her infographics on survival techniques became enchanted teaching tools, allowing people to experience simulated survival scenarios.

In Toronto, Aiden Campbell's extensive knowledge of fantasy literature and games, combined with his real-world preparation, made him a valuable resource in understanding the new manga-based reality. He organized study groups to test and document how mana could be used, creating a rudimentary guide for the new world. His blog followers spread across Canada, formed a network of prepared individuals who helped their communities transition.

Aiden's role as a Survival Scholar took on new importance as he systematically cataloged and analyzed the effects of mana on the world. His gaming experience allowed him to easily explain the terms "skills" and "leveling up," creating a framework that helped others understand and develop their abilities. Aiden's archery skills, enhanced by mana, made him a formidable long-range fighter, while his parkour abilities allowed him to navigate the transformed urban landscape with ease.

As weeks turned into months, these prepared individuals became the pillars of their communities, their foresight and skills helping not just to survive, but to begin thriving in the new mana-integrated world. They faced numerous challenges – from adapting to a world without modern technology to defending against mana-mutated creatures and less scrupulous humans who sought to exploit the chaos.

Yet, with each challenge, they grew stronger, their unique abilities evolving in ways they never imagined. They began to connect with each other, sharing knowledge and resources across continents. A new network of leaders emerged, bound by their shared experience and determination to guide humanity through this extraordinary transition.

The Integration had forever changed the world, but thanks to these individuals and others like them, humanity found a way to adapt and flourish. As mana became an integral part of daily life, the line between reality and fantasy blurred, opening up possibilities that were once the realm of imagination.

The story of "The Integration of Earth into the Mana System" had indeed been a warning, but it had also been a beacon of hope. For those who had heeded its call, it became the first chapter in humanity's greatest adventure.

Beautiful fucking chapter. I loved it.
