My advice to the two of you will be simply to sit and write. Even if it comes out shit, it's better than not doing it. And even the shittiest product will give you a bigger sense of accomplishment than doing nothing.

It doesn't usually come out as shit, for me it usually comes out as gibberish. Just a bunch of disconnected thoughts that encompass a great story, incoherently. I can get through about 3 chapters in a sitting, but then the thread falls apart and I lose direction. If I can keep the thread I can write continuously, every day at every opportunity. I have three stories that are about 3-5 chapters in, but I can't figure out how to transition the basic premise introduction to actual story telling and developed plot. That keeps me from writing because I can't develop the story past that point, then I come up with a new idea and write it up as far as I can and run out of story content and development, then I stop to work out more material and can't and stop writing until i get a new idea... rinse, repeat. The only way around this challenge that I have managed to come up with is to lean into it and write short story serials, which I dislike the idea of...

I can tell you about my experience. Hopefully, it will help. I had the idea for the Gate Traveler for about five years. For three years, it just "sat" in my mind. Finally, I bought a giant notebook, the biggest I could find, and began to outline the story. Not general premise, but by actual chapters, and then by books. It was like bulletin points outlining the chapters - 1,2,3, .... when I FINISHED the whole series. I literally finished it until the final epilogue of the final book. I sat down to write, and it's a walk in the park.

I need to outline better or something, the outlines I have made never seem to line up with the story as I write. Thank you for your instruction.
