The most obvious insect to use for Chrysalis's design would be a praying mantis, but in the case of what I actually ended up basing her design off of, it's a blend of mantis, cockroach, and phorid fly. She has a few different 'forms' depending on how fed she is, and for this illustration I decided to draw her at her most typical: not engorged on love, but not completely starved of it, either.
