I believe urashiki mentioned last episode that toneri “lend” him the puppets they were the same puppets from naruto the last.

I think where boruto is spontaneous and emotional Shinki is all logic and rationality so i think that's what gaara wanted Shinki to learn more that its not always about being logical or rational all the time. Boruto even said he acts like a machine where Boruto is the complete opposite of that.

I also think Urashiki's a very cool villain. I see many people who hate him and think he's annoying, but I really like him. His personality, character design, his abilities, all of it.
