the little references between boruto and og naruto are really cool for people who have watched booth; and not only is their first mission linked to a bridge in a sense, but also did get a higher rank quite quick because of the developing circumstances like in og naruto

When the greeting man told the team that the last town head saw the town like their family the reason Boruto was shell-shocked was because he saw his father in the same light

Speaking of comparisons to the Zabuza arc, Sarada is definitely taking on the traits of her parents and how they felt towards Naruto when going on the mission. A cute little full circle.

Boruto has enormous reserves of privilege and ego that he still needs to get over. But he's also a resilient little dude. He's cocky from his skill level so it's good that Sarada and Mitsuki and Konohamuru are there to keep him somewhat in check. It's clear from the "Genin Trials" that he understands team work, but he hasn't internalized it enough to START with that mindset because he keeps knee-jerk reacting and jumping at things on his own in order to "show his stuff". Re-watching this now, I feel like it isn't just the start of an arc, but a fresh start to a new storytelling direction that lays much of the ground for what's to come. As always thanks for the great commentary!

I am glad you caught this Jack! Keep watching the way Boruto runs compared to other ninjas 😂 very subtle thing to notice but a big thing for Boruto's character development! Keep ur eyes open on this 👀

Regarding the genjutsu, keep in mind that it was cast on a bunch of civilians with no chakra control. They were extremely easy to manipulate even with a lower-level genjutsu. If shinobi had been the target, it wouldn't have been so effective.

its called the naruto run. lol boruto acts like he wants nothing to do with his dad, doesnt even do the run hahaha. keep an eye on that...
