That "jogger" that told Izumi where Ed and Al went is actually one of their employees. In the manga and 2003 anime he was on the island (disguised as a wild man) with Ed and Al to train them in hand to hand combat and make sure they didn't die.

"Waluigi" (AKA Yoki) is a character from the original series who was a corrupt military person who was exploiting a small mining town. Ed exposed him and he had to go into hiding. They briefly mention it in Brotherhood but cut the actual episodes. Also, we finally meet Greed my personal favorite of the sins. Did a cosplay of him a long time ago, in fact.
