I think this is probably my favorite luffy/sanji moment ever. "No matter how many times you kick me, you're the one that gets hurt", luffy's ability to empathize with someone and understand what they need to hear can never be understated. Goda does it once again. Also Mayumi Tanaka's voice acting is so real and raw its insane.

I never realized how legendary this episode was, or this arc. I have never rewatched this arc specifically because it was kind of a letdown when I had to watch it week to week with the slow pacing, but watching it more frequently it's incredibly compelling. The writing is beyond incredible. Luffy sees through Sanji's charade instantly. Instead of fighting Sanji, Luffy takes the beating to prove two things. One, that he knows Sanji doesn't mean any of what he said and that he knows Sanji won't kill him. Two, that there is no universe in which Luffy leaves the island without him. Both of these things not only represent Luffy's will, but they are actions Luffy chose to make sure Sanji's guilt at his "betrayal" would lessen a bit. Sanji's resolve to attack Luffy so desperately equally compelling. As Jack said, Sanji is begging for Luffy to leave internally. I cannot even imagine how soul crushing it must have been for Sanji to do that to Luffy. Sanji was fighting to sacrifice himself and protect the Strawhats. It feels very similar to Robin in Water 7, only Sanji took the fight upon himself to protect Luffy and Nami from retaliation by the Vinsmokes. Even though Luffy wouldn't leave, by beating him into submission he still protected Luffy and Nami from the Vinsmokes. Sanji also ensured Luffy survived by fighting Luffy himself. Now the Vinsmokes are convinced that ties have been cut and won't attack the Straw Hats needlessly.

Another reason on why i believe Luffy lets Sanji continue to kick him, is because probably he knows sanji can't do anything and feels very frustrated and a lot of anger for the situation he's being put in ... so he lets him take out all of his anger on him ... cuz he can take it, similar on how zoro took luffy's pain on thriller bark
