So Patreon has decided to put it on Patreon creators to announce the bad news that sales tax is going to be charged to Patrons.

Anyway, the lowdown is that due to a new law passing in several countries including the U.S., Patreon is required to start charging a sales tax on some pledges starting July 1, 2020. This sales tax charge is dependent on a patron's location and the tier that they've pledged to/what kind of rewards are received.

On my end, I have to update each tier with benefits and set up an appropriate value for each benefit listed, so there may be changes reflecting that depending on the tier you're in. I'm currently looking into ways to soften the blow for y'all, because frankly, this is stupid as hell.

As of right now, from what I'm seeing from other creators, only some patrons will be charged, and the amount charged will be 'very small'. As an example from another creator, sales tax rates in the U.S. range from 4% to 11%, so on a $5 pledge, that would be between $0.20-$0.55 cents.

As for y'all, if you want to adjust or cancel your pledges before July hits due to this upcoming garbage, that's completely understandable--I'll be sure to shoot a reminder on here for that. And for those of you who are able to stick around despite that, it's greatly appreciated.

I am on the lookout and open for possible alternatives to Patreon, as well as seeing about expanding my Ko-fi to accommodate for what I do here on Patreon. I'll dish out an update on that as we get closer to July.

Shitty garbage aside, I've officially got all rewards packed and will be sending them out tomorrow! <: Hope y'all are staying well, and that merch club goods come home safely!

I wanted to ask if there's anything we can do to make this easier for you - it's bullshit, and it sucks for us yeah, but I'm in the lucky position of it not causing a big problem for me, and it's gotta suck for you and other creators to. So, anything we can do to help make it easier for you?

Appreciate the offer for help! At this time, I feel like it's more on the creator end to adjust everything appropriately. If I find there's an opportunity y'all can make it easier for me, I will let you know!
