I’ve been rewatching the show with my mom and I have sympathy for Conrad but I still believe Jeremiah is better for Belly. In season 1 Conrad was dealing with something heavy, his mom’s sickness and the possibility of her dying so he and Belly never really got a chance. But in season 2 both he and Jeremiah were dealing with the same tragedy: their mother’s death. They both lost her and yet Jeremiah still was able to communicate how he felt to Belly and Conrad couldn’t. People can say he has anxiety and panic attacks and doesn’t know how to communicate. That’s all true but it’s even more reason why he doesn’t belong with Belly imo. It doesn’t make him a bad person it just means he needs to find someone who is willing to deal with all those issues. Belly tried to support him time after time but he wouldn’t let her in. Everything was a guessing game. I’ve seen redditors say Belly should’ve read between the lines to know what Conrad was feeling or what he actually meant when he said the opposite. She doesn’t have time to decipher every little thing he says or does and she shouldn’t have to. She doesn’t have to guess when it comes to Jere because he is open with her and let’s her know almost immediately how he feels. That’s what I like about Jere. I hope to see growth from Conrad in season 3, but I can’t imagine what that would look like.

The fact that all Bonrad stans think Jeremiah is manipulative and toxic just because he voices his feelings tells me everything I need to know. They want men they can save.

Crazy thing is, they had to change a lot of the dynamics from the books to make Conrad more of a sympathetic character. Cause I do prefer show Conrad over the book version. But in the books, both of the boys knew their mom’s cancer and despite that Jeremiah was playing big brother the whole summer and trying to keep the peace between everyone.
