Lil tidbit about Sacha Dhawan (the new Master)- you might be recognizing him from appearing in 'An Adventure in Space and Time', that 50th anniversary Doctor Who documentary with David Bradley playing the 1st Doctor, etc. He played Waris Hussein, the director of the very first episode of the show. In terms of the Doctor's humanity, there's been two vague references to it- Paul McGann (the 8th Doctor) briefly mentioned it in his TV Movie ("I'm human, on my mother's side") and by Ashildr (Maisie Williams) to Capaldi's Doctor in Series 9's finale, however The Doctor just responded with "does it matter?", so take that as you will. Extra info; the head of MI6, 'C', is portrayed by Stephen Fry; big British actor and comedian. If you give him an IMDb search, you'll probably recognize one of his roles. Great to be in Series 12 now- looking forward to the next part!

Tissue compression was used by the master in the classic series. The actor playing the main villain is Lenny henry he was a famous stand up comedian and comedic actor in the 70’s 80’s and 90’s he was also cofounder of a tv charity called comic relief.he does more serious acting now. Great reaction 👍🏻

I absolutely love this episode - that final scene on the plane is one of my absolute favourites of all of Doctor Who to be honest. Sacha Dhawan's performance is just amazing and it still gives me goosebumps every time! My own reaction to this episode is hilarious. :D All the main cast seem to have stepped up a bit. The sheer scale of the episode (set in... no less than 4 countries and mostly filmed in a 5th (South Africa)) is just massive and I love it so much. The tissue compressor that he uses is a callback to Classic Who - it was a weapon he used a number of times back then.

Just to add as well, Season 12 for me is a big step up from Season 11, though some people do not like some of the overarching story aspects. They don't bother me to be honest.

This was a pretty good series opener. Definitely better than series 11's by quite a fair bit for me personally. Sacha Dhawan does a great job as The Master. His inclusion is one of the better aspects of the Chibnal era for me. Yeah absolutely, Chibs always has to have at least one of those Dad jokes that kills lot the momentum. lol. Snap! is this episodes killer moment for me. 🙄😕 But it's all fine, it picks right back up again. I personally really miss the humour that both Davies and Moffat brought with the help of 10, 11, 12 and co. Jodie does have her moments. I wouldn't say it's a particular strength for her 13. I actually think playing it all straight with a more serious tone. Could have been this era's own identity. Not necessarily darker with a more adult tone. But a solid family drama and a greater push on the actors for more consistent dramatic performances. Sometimes I feel it's like they are just following the knitting patterns slotting in Doctor Who esque moments. It often leaves me with a disjointed feeling where I fall in and out of the episode with a greater ease than most things I watch. I was swept along with this one far more than most. So I want to be fair. We have definitely had a step up in some areas. When this aired I was initially relieved that things might start to improve in those areas where last series fell way short. I still have my issues. I'd say the average good to poor ratio is a bit better for series 12 imo.

This was actually a decent opener mainly because the mystery aspect of it actually felt somewhat engaging even though it still doesn't hit the mark in all areas. Yaz and Ryan were actually given stuff to do. The parts with them pretending to be journalists/photographers worked decently and Yaz having a near death experience allowed her to showcase her emotions which was long overdue in actually seeing the companions experience strong emotions. It's a just a shame they don't really continue this for the rest of Series 12. The Master reveal is a bit too clunky. They definitely could have done that better but it at least creates a good cliffhanger for this opener. I like the spyfall vibe and the whole mystery of the light creatures and killing of spies. Series 12 is a bit better than Series 11 but unfortunately that's not saying much...
