I think the implication with the historical warriors defeating the Dalek is that, as they keep referring to it being 'the first to leave Skaro', it would've just been one of the classic Daleks (remember them in that episode with the First Doctor on their planet?) - thus, the casing wouldn't have been as strong as all the Daleks we see in the modern series. I'm glad the emotional beats hit well for you. I think Ryan's Dad has a long way to go, but I don't mind Ryan forgiving him at the end. Minor gripe; wish Graham had some line towards Ryan during that scene with him falling towards the sun- that's your grandson, yo! Yell his name!

Yeah it would’ve been nice if Graham said something but at the same time I think he knew Ryan needed to do this on his own. It was his moment even if it was dangerous

Guess what I'm gonna say..... 🤣   Actually for the most part I really liked this one. Despite the inevitable diatribe that will likely spill out on to aisle 4 when I get going. A good early spin on what can be a tired Dalek formula.   I'd hazard an uneducated guess that the styling may have had to fall in line, as much as possible, with the established design. Being that, as I understand it, the show doesn't own the rights to the Dalek character. I don't know if that even plays a part in this depiction. (Only guessing) But I agree tho. Maybe more missing panels, only one light working or stuff along those lines to suggest unfinished. They went for no sheilds, which is understandable based on it being an early Dalek. Another slight tweak on the established design. Again making sense, it being a resonance model. Lets not forget that rusty finish. (Unrelated side note. Do we remember the Dalek 12 used to call Rusty?) The earth missiles were a nice touch. That made sense with the casing opening like missile silos.   More stuff to like. Ryan gets something good to work with. 👍🏻 Tosin actually does way more than just ok. Zero complaints! (Yes, English speaking people say Zed, it being, well..... English and all....) 😁😉😜🤪

I appreciated The Doc, (as Graham would say) hitting Aaron with those well deserved sick burns.   Yaz was in this one right? Maybe a bit unfair. But it doesn't feel that she made her mark on this one. It's unfortunate that there has seemed to be this revolving focus for the team. Then sometimes their just stood more to the side while The Doctor explains stuff. Chibnal is a well established writer. He really needed to do better with the fundamental architecture of structuring his characters into the script for this series. Probably not as important when you're writing a serial drama. But for these more or less self contained stories. It's absolutely vital considering his villian arch for this series was basically unimpressive tooth face guy. That I'm guessing nobody gives really gave two shits about. It's a failure as I see it, in not doing consistent and encapsulated character development well enough. Or producing an enticing overarching plot for what's an even shorter series. This is frankly failing on two fronts. When on only one would have been more acceptable.

Graham is pretty solid, nothing new there tho.   Nice emotional resolution, I dug that, more so the second time around.   Defunded Unit.... 🙄 The cynic in me says that's a toothless commentary reference to Brexit. Britian not wanting to play in the international cooperative sandbox anymore.   On no the Internet is down gag.... I am glad that you found that social commentary amusing. 🤣 That's one of those eye rolling jokes that I get is applicable in todays world. Personally I found it a bit cheap and lame. Probably not helped by the naff acting. Chibnal's consistent unpredictable misfires with his attempts of humour insertion. They're not all terrible. I have to really appreciate that they either work really well or leave me cringed to death in my chair. There rarely seems to be that middle ground. 🤣 He's to comedy writing what Marmite is to British consumer market. (If you're not familiar. The marketing for this product is essentially. You will either love our product or detest it. Which has made for some entertaining ad campaigns over recent decades.)   I'd put this one in my top three for this series. Way more to like than not.

Love this episode!

This felt more like a finale to Series 11 than the actual Series finale was. I agree with you about Mitch and Lin. They seem they could have been potentially good companions. The more you go through this era of Doctor Who, you may notice how certain guest stars have more chemistry with The 13th Doctor than The Doctor has with her actual companions. The one Dalek was somewhat portrayed decently here up until the end. But there are still issues such as the Ryan and Aaron moments. One thing I do like is that it finally manages to give Tosin Cole an opportunity to do some decent acting. Usually he's too monotone in delivery but this is one of the rare moments where actually gets to act out more. But my issue with the scenes with Ryan and his dad is that they didn't previously set it up as well as they could. I feel like we didn't get a proper apology from Aaron either. I know he was grieving for Grace but the point still stands and I think the cafe was dragged out for way too long. The Wi-fi scene is cringey. I think one way to improve the ending would be to make Ryan be the one getting controlled by the Dalek which could lead to Aaron pushing to save his son, apologise and ask for forgiveness instead of Ryan saying it when it really should have been the other way around. Would have been more meaningful. I would also change things to Yaz being taken captive by the Dalek instead of Lin mainly because it would have given her something to do. Yaz doesn't really get much to do here. One of the other Doctor Who spin offs actually handles the absentee father story/theme in a much better way IMO. But aside from these issues, this was still a decent episode. Definitely one of the better ones for sure.
