This is one of those OUAT plot points that falls under “cool idea, poor execution” for me. Or poor setup, rather. They wanted the twist to be a complete surprise — and they succeeded, because there were literally no clues whatsoever leading up to it. Killian’s memories being taken away should have made him not know why he was doing certain things, not eliminate those things entirely. Being a Dark One is a state you’re in, not just a piece of knowledge. He should have had bouts of power unleashed, flashes of uncontrollable and disproportionate anger, heard whisperings, and so on. Yet, he acted completely the same as before. All of that not only would have made sense, but it’d have been fascinating to see him go through all of those things, with both *him* not understanding what’s happening as well as the *audience* not understanding and having to guess what’s going on. Or, perhaps the audience should have been shown several episodes ago and so instead of the reveal itself being a surprise, we'd be watching the characters figure it out. It would have served Emma’s story a lot better, too, I think. It just doesn’t resonate very well being done as a reveal for the sake of reveal. Unpopular opinion time: I disagree with you about Emma saving him. Yes, she kept him alive, but that wasn’t her call to make. Killian essentially invoked a DNR and Emma blatantly ignored it. Only instead of him simply being resuscitated, he was turned into the embodiment of evil. Evil that murdered the woman he loved, took his hand, fueled centuries of revenge, and was everything he hated. He BEGGED her not to do that to him, but because it wasn’t what she wanted, she ignored him. She took away his bodily autonomy, and that is NOT okay in my book. Plus, as we can see in this episode by him still being a Dark One and still pissed off, Emma did not succeed in helping him through it as she’d told him she would. My two cents. Regarding Killian’s murder rings, what's interesting to me is that what he says contradicts canon, because the rings he wears now are the same ones he wore all the way back when he met Milah and Rumple. So him killing a man for calling him One-Handed Jones is totally nonsensical, given that he still had two hands at the time. Obviously the real explanation is that the writing team goofed, but since that's not canon, the in-world implication has to be that either Killian misremembered (unlikely) or was lying to Emma to try and bring her Emma-ness back. The ring memorializing him killing a man for stealing his wine could be real, I suppose, but the other one simply can’t be. Entertaining episode, though, and as we saw and will continue to see, Killian being a Dark One provides a lot of excellent acting opportunities.

Yeah totally with you as far as it coming out of nowhere. As far as Emma going against Killian’s wishes and her plan not succeeding, it was selfish of her but I understand where she’s coming from. She didn’t plan on him being a dark one for long because she wants to rid them both of the darkness by killing Zelena, which I’m fine with. I also don’t think she knew exactly what the price would be. Her plan would’ve worked if everyone had just trusted her. But no one wanted Emma to kill anyone even if it was someone like Zelena. If Zelena hadn’t interfered at the last minute Emma might’ve rid both herself and Killian of the darkness without him ever being the wiser.

I'm watching your Once Upon A Time reactions, I love them and I always wait for them xD (just because you said that you don't know if there is anyone watching those reactions anymore)
