I am glad that you liked a lot from this episode. It is different. Much like some aspects from series 5 were. The talking to the audience about "the change." Absolutely not a new thing, all new NuWho Doctor Who scripts have done that. I'll just point out. And I respect that I have seen these episodes more than you. But I'll tentatively say.... This is the 11 series and it is quite perplexing to me how you still haven't grasped how things work right after a regeneration. Rather than me pointlessly lecturing you with a list of examples like a fanatic, who's insistent you see things my way. I'll just politely suggest you go back and rewatch. •The Christmas Invasion •The Eleventh Hour •Deep Breath Three examples of The Doctor either sleeping, bouncing about or both. Trying to 'remember' and figure out who there are. So I'd say yes you're right in that you are reading into stuff that just isn't there and so absolutely way way way off on the show's commentary on women needing more help. I personally don't think Chibnal would have purposefully picked a women to play the next Doctor and then did something like that. (As I understand it, no men were in the running to play 13, it was always going to be a woman even if Jodie didn't accept) Pleased you feel you have gotten a group "Fam" TARDIS team that you'd been waiting for. I hope you get the character development you are hoping for. (I'm all about that too. I didn't get it though.) So I'll be intrigued to hear how you highlight examples of that, that I and many of the audience didn't see. You have always had a different take on things. I'll welcome hearing that as it will enhance my enjoyment for this run. A bit that's a tad preachy. There might be some more of that to come. We'll let you judge for yourself if you feel the same in those instances. More to say as we go through this series.

I guess I forget things as much as the Doctor as I’ve only seen each episode once and am watching several other shows as well.🤷🏻‍♂️ Thx for reminding me and for your opinion.

This is a 7 for me... BUT it's actually one of my favourites from Season 11... which is not the best sign I know. :D BUT I have a feeling you might like Season 11 more than most for some reason. And I really like Season 12... so I'm interested to see what you think as it develops over the next couple of seasons.

I was pleasantly surprised by this debut story, and (at the time) felt reasonable optimism for what lay ahead. More than that,I won't say :)

I just had to pop in to see what you thought of Jodi. I was interested to see that you saw the connection between her interpretation of The Doctor as similar to Matt Smith's. I definitely see what you mean as far as that compassion side of things. For me, based on this first episode her mannerisms, and maybe a bit of the physicality you talked about reminded me a lot of David Tennant's Doctor. Her "you did this to yourself" seemed to have a parallel to "no second chances, I'm that kind of a man" for me. I agree about enjoying the character driven nature of Chibnall's writing. And because 10 is probably my favorite Doctor but Rose one of my least favorite companions, I agree about liking the "fam" dynamic of this lot. (I'd say Matt Smith and Jodi tied for second for me.) Interestingly, my first exposure to the actors who played both Martha and Graham was on the UK remake of the original Law and Order. He played the Jerry Orbach, Lenny Briscoe type older cop and she was the Jill Hennessey/Angie Harmon assistant DA (crown prosecutor) in that series.

Finally caught up with your reactions from here up to Series 12 episode 4. To be brutally honest, I'm not the biggest fan of the Chibnall era as I think there's a lot of issues with the writing for the 13th Doctor but it's been interesting to see your perspective on episodes so I'll give a bit of mine now that I've managed to catch up. Not gonna lie, it's been a struggle to comment or say anything since this era is very lacking in story-telling, general engagement and character development. The potential is there but it's not properly realised and I think you've already realised that based on your reactions to the latest episodes. Having said that, this opener is actually decent. Just like you, I really dig the group dynamic within this episode and it felt like a decent introduction for the 13th Doctor but I think killing off Grace was a huge mistake. It felt....kinda unnecessary? She stated that she had to save Ryan being in danger but he wasn't really in any danger? Which makes her death feel a bit shoehorned in? Not sure what the right word is but she shouldn't have been killed off. Out of all the characters, she seemed the most interested and engaged with what was happening and it could have been worth including her as part of the Tardis team just so she could get more thrills and adventure. I understand that her death plays a part in pushing Ryan and Graham together but I just don't find Ryan that interesting as a character. He's too bland and stoic for my liking. I also think the villain could have been realised a bit more but they at least attempted to make him threatening (before his mask came off). I like that it was mostly set at night and this is one of the few episodes where the music with the new composer seems to stand out decently even if it's not as memorable as Murray Gold's music. The cliffhanger also makes for an effective ending. So this marks as a decent start but unfortunately I don't think many of the following episodes really lead up to the promise or potential was brought with this introduction episode.
