Damon actually wanted to give the cure to Elena back in the finale of season 4, he did give it to her, but she didn't drink it and ended up forcing it on Katherine.

My issue with Matt is that he speaks like everyone wanted this life. Tyler and Caroline were innocent and were thrown into the world of the supernatural because the Salvatore brothers couldn't leave Elena alone. Also, if he's going to dislike them, commit to it. If they're so bad, go to the council and have them handle it. I do think he gets unnecessary hate from fans but every time the writers don't know what to do with him, he goes on this "i hate vamps" tour for a few episodes then goes right back to them.

i think at this point damon being unsure about giving elena the cure is less about being worried she wont love or be with him as a human but more that she'll get old and die and he'll still be a vampire. whereas in the season 4 cure story he was more worried about the love part even though in the S4 finale he did give her the cure anyway she just didnt take it

Yeah he makes sense to me. It’s not black and white even for him which is why he goes back and forth. It’s hard for him because he cares about them but he is constantly caught in the crossfire and pays consequences for being friends with supernatural people. It’s very similar to being friends with an addict. A person doesn’t choose to be an addict and their loved ones often suffer around them. Logically Matt should cut himself off from them but he still cares about them. I love when he calls them out because no one else will. Bonnie used to but she’s also supernatural and has kind of accepted who her friends are. And Ric was supernatural at one point so Matt is kind of the only one who hasn’t been supernatural at all and suffers because of it. He wouldn’t just go to the council and deal with them because they are his friends and he can’t just leave because he can’t afford it. It doesn’t matter that they didn’t choose to be supernatural. They do choose to turn their switch off. Even if they have a reason they are making a choice knowing that they will most likely kill people. I think Matt should hold them accountable every time they step out of line😄

Yeah but he gave it to an Elena who didn’t really want it and then gave it away. Now it seems like she actually might want it because she wants children. The stakes are higher than they were back then. Him giving it to her now that she actually wants it would mean more to me.
