Not a Great one, but it's.. it's there! Ending scene is really good on the Missy development. This one was actually written by a Classic Doctor Who writer, who previously wrote the last episode of the classics before it was cancelled. (It was... not because of the episode's quality, lmao.)

Yeah, the soldiers being completely okay with bill being gay was unrealistic.. however the scenario of a bunch of soldiers trapped with her couldve gone one of two ways so im glad they went with the acceptance message rather than have Bill go through that. Monster of the week episode again.. my issue with this series is that most of the ideas are cool but they hardly ever stick the landing. Looking forward to the few episodes they do though 👀

I'm in the minority of liking this story but I can totally understand people's issues with it. There definitely a few iffy moments particularly with the 9th Legion and Bill. It's cool to have gay soldiers in theory but there's sort of an issue with how realistic could that really be with them being open about it in a completely different time. I guess we'll never know for sure but I'm not quite knowledgeable with the Roman culture compared to the Greek culture when it comes to sexual relationships. One thing I especially love about this episode is the scene where the Romans and Scots encounter each other but then start to understand each other because of The Doctor and The Tardis being around. I like how Bill acknowledged this and The Doctor confirming that they all sound like children now that everyone is talking the same language. This episode could have benefited with more breathing space and time to develop the key characters a bit more because I liked the idea of Bill leading the 9th legion and encouraging to keep the fight going. Missy's part at the end was also a highlight with her actually experiencing different emotions too.

This and the previous one totally dull and uninteresting to me. I hate war stories generally and both of them are just an army being annoying and I lose interest in seconds.

This is a reasonably old reaction but I just wanted to say about the scene with the roman soldiers and bill saying she's a lesbian. Romans and pretty much every other western ancient civilization looked utterly differently at same-sex relationships. It wasn't frowned upon to have same-sex relations as long as you weren't the male being the submissive one ie the bottom. The Roman Empire is a completely different civilization IMO and it's hard to put our social norms and structures upon them from our time and society, race wasn't as big a problem either with numerous African roman emperors and slavery being for the poor no matter the colour.

Hi Andrew, to me, the fact that homosexuality wasn’t frowned upon unless you were the submissive bottom means that it was frowned upon. The majority of tops were wealthy and the majority of bottoms were servants or slaves. I’m sure there were exceptions that snuck around that but like you said it wasn’t accepted. The Roman Empire were brilliant when it came to warfare and conquering but the fact that they had slaves at all means it’s not hard for me to judge them. Treating people like human beings has nothing to do with social norms IMO. They certainly aren’t the only civilization to treat people badly but I’d judge other civilizations the same way. I can acknowledge the contributions and achievements of other civilizations but I gladly wag my finger when they screw up too😂 Thanks for watching.
