I question whether completely abandoning their adult offspring over drugs is good parenting. Maybe not wanting him to live with them is understandable, but breaking off contact is too far. It would be different if he was violent or otherwise abusive toward them, but I don't think he was. I think good parents should keep trying to help a young guy like Jesse to get things right. EDIT - I suppose there is the stuff they don't know about with Walter, but I think they should at least make it clear that they love him and will try to be there for him even if they don't want him living at home with them.

I feel like they had probably given him several chances to clean up his act and he wasted all of them. To me they were showing they loved him by letting him stay there on the condition that he not bring drugs into the house. That’s reasonable to me since they have a younger son to look out for. In this case, however it was the younger son who brought drugs but Jesse chose not to say anything so I can’t blame the parents. It looks like they were decent parents who did the best they could. I’ll have to wait and see if there’s more to the story as to why Jesse turned out the way he did. The younger son may have just been trying weed because his friends were doing it and he was curious or it could have bern his secret way of rebelling since the parents always talk about Jesse and are always concerned for him and the younger son is resentful. I don’t know. I’m usually for tough love especially when it comes to drugs since I have a friend who is an addict and if you let them their toxicity can take over your life too. Boundaries have to be set very clearly. “I love you but if you want to live with me or be around me you have to at least try to get clean, otherwise ttfn”
