I didn’t remember this episode but wow this was a fun one! The supporting characters and general premise of the heist really made this episode. If you liked Jonathon Bailey (Sci) you should definitely watch Crashing! It’s a Phoebe Waller-Bridge show where he really shines. But back to the episode, I’m so happy they didn’t die and they were *rewarded*. I do wish we learnt more about the teller I think they were called. It would’ve made the story about saving them a bit more impactful for me.

This is one of my favourite stories from this season. It's twisty;cleverly thought out;witty;suspenseful - plus,it effectively plays on our expectations of this latest Doctor being cold and heartless by making us believe that this has been confirmed, but then finding out that he's a compassionate old soul after all (even though he has great trouble expressing that). Unlike 'Listen' (which works from an 'atmosphere' point of view, but falls apart as a time-travel story...as you have discovered via spoilers),this time-travel plot pieces itself together really well. It's a shame that it's an episode that generally seems to be overlooked.

Ah man, its a real shame you found out about Danny this early.. but now that you know , yeah it doesnt make sense AT ALL 😂😂 wont go too much more into that whole thing until we get there but.. yeah.. hate to say it because i know youll hate to read it but... dont think too much about the soldier, the show plays by the rules of the story they want to tell the later they get into the show... i think about the timeline of it like this - rupert in the care home -> orson pink -> kid doctor so by the time it get to kid doctor itd already been a family heirloom from the pink family.. but that might be wrong and probably is😂

Evan!!

The supporting cast in this one really makes it. The last act kind of stumbles a little but it works because you care. Quite like this one, definitely my favorite Steve Thompson joint (not that there's much competition). Also Clara's outfit is fire.

This Doctors approach to other peoples death is similar to Sherlocks (which Moffat was also incharge of), mulling over their deaths doesn't fix or change their mission so it doesn't help to dwell. To be fair Tennant and Smith would have side characters die too, he can't always save everyone (the Titanic episode was a blood bath!) Capaldi's regeneration very morally grey, something different

I laughed so hard when you talked about Saibra just not finding the "right" person lmao. I'm with you, this is a fun episode with great supporting characters. I think many fans would have loved a longer team-up with them, I know I would have. And there's good moments of character work too with the Doctor revealing he hates himself (a serious detail treated lightly), and his reaction to Saibra's hug. He had a similar reaction when Marion kissed his cheek in the Robin Hood episode I believe. As if human touch and gestures of gratitude make him uncomfortable. But it's definitely nice to know that he did care about Saibra and Sci, even though he forgot he did so his reactions to their "deaths" were so cold. Man, it's a shame you were spoiled. There's a lot more Danny in this season so, uh, try to forget it lol. Would you be interested in a memory worm? :p

Moffat in Doctor Who Magazine: "I can think of several explanations, but the obvious one is that Orson comes from another branch of the family. He knows about Danny’s *******, because Clara got in touch with the Pink family after ********* ****** (because you would, wouldn’t you?), and told them what he did, and why. And she gave them the little soldier, as a keepsake of a great man and a great soldier – and because she knows the toy soldier has to remain in the Pink family line."

Moffat has explained off Orson as not being a direct descendent of Danny, which is a bit of a lazy excuse for the clear problem in the timeline, but whatever. I think Time Heist is a great little story - I didn't appreciate it at the time, but I think it's very cleverly written and fun. Definitely a very strong standalone episode. This Doctor really is a VERY big change, particularly to start with, but I do think he'll grow on you.
