The Nigerian Job- What an absolutely phenomenal show!! Thank you very much for your reaction for this show's Pilot episode. I really loved watching it again with you. And I am so, so happy to see how much you really enjoyed this first episode as well. :) First... we are introduced to each of the characters, who are brought together by someone they don't know to be the bad guy, upon hiring them to steal another company's secret plans under false pretenses. Nate, or Nathan Ford is the team's mastermind, played by actor... Timothy Hutton. Sophie Devereaux is the team's grifter, played by Gina Bellman. Eliot Spencer is the team's hitter, played by actor... Christian Kane. Alec Hardison is the team's hacker, played by actor... Aldis Hodge, and Parker is the team's thief, played by actress... Beth Riesgraf. I love, love, love each one of these characters, each of whom are uniquely talented in their specific skillsets. And I absolutely love the main concept of this series now that the team has come together in the end in order to take down the real bad guys who try to hurt the innocent people too weak to fight against them legally. It's absolutely brilliant!!! I love each member of the team very much. They all share fantastic chemistry with one another and their actors play off of one another very well. However, I have to say that Hardison and Parker are definitely my favorite two members of the team just from this first episode alone, but also for a number of reasons that you will come to discover over time should you continue on with Leverage. Thank you so much! I hope there will be many more reactions for Leverage. Thank you! Sincerely, Heidi

Darius.

This is really cool - thanks for this. I won't say much because I want you to keep going, but, there's charm & cleverness to this that's hard to deny. I know I'm underselling it, I just don't want to say anything that can potentially spoil your experience. Again, I hope you continue please.

Yeah, this does have a similar feel to Psych 😄 Part of that is due to the fact that they were on at the same time (Leverage had fewer seasons, but its entirety occurred during Psych's run) and were both on fledgling networks, Leverage on TNT and Psych on USA. The networks were trying to branch out into legit TV shows and make a name for themselves, so they hosted shows that likely wouldn't have made it very far on the big networks. Psych is a detective show, but certainly not the same kind of procedural as CBS, NBC, etc. likes to greenlight. (Interestingly, a couple years after Psych started, CBS began The Mentalist, which has an incredibly similar, but much less lighthearted, premise as Psych does. A coincidence, I'm sure.) And Leverage isn’t the same type of show you generally see either. So I think them having a lot more leeway and creative control because of being on smaller networks really allowed them to be more individualized. However, you don’t actually see much of that until after the pilot, because when shopping the shows, the creators of course wouldn’t have known that they’d be allowed to have freedom to do what they wanted. I think that’s the main reason why the pilots of both shows are pretty dry — the creators wanted to present the shows as generically as the premises would allow. As such, the pilots aren't super reflective of what the shows are all about, unlike what you see starting in the second episodes. For instance, in your Psych review you mentioned that you didn’t understand what Gus brought to the table and didn’t like that he was so negative, and in Leverage you mentioned that the characters, other than a bit with Nate, were absent almost any personality. We know what their skillsets are, but nothing else. That certainly makes it difficult to get into a show without having seen any other episodes, because it’s hard to find something about the characters to actually care about. And maybe neither show would ever be your thing, even disregarding the pilots. But the quality of both shows really does go up as soon as the second episode, if you’d at all be interested in giving them another shot. For what it’s worth, I’ve never seen anyone on YouTube react to Leverage (and only one person occasionally react to Psych), so you’d corner the market 😄 (I do wish Leverage’s premise weren’t so applicable to today, though. The show ended nearly a decade ago, yet corporations are still screwing over the little guy and rich people are getting richer by exploiting those below them just as much now — if not more — than they were back then. In that regard, the show is quite cathartic because even though it’s fiction, it’s so vindicating to see corrupt people and companies get their just desserts for once.)

2021-07-08 22:04:48 As others have said, this is one of my favourite shows. The chemistry of the cast is fantastic, so much so that IMDB have revived the show which starts airing next Friday under the title, Leverage Redemption. Hope you can react to the original series in the future.
