Fun episode! Tbh I was expecting you not to like Elena without her emotions, so I’m glad you enjoyed it. Regardless of the situation, I will say that the one reason that makes turning Elena’s emotions off worthwhile is that it got rid of the sire bond! Hurray! That pesky thing is finally gone (at least for now). I also realized that I think this is the first time we’ve seen Klaus have a romantic/sex scene? So good for you, Klaus LOL. The friendship between Caroline and Stefan!! YES!! I love their interactions together so much; I can’t help but smile. Your point about Elena still feeling different from both the regular Elena and Katherine is so true. Obviously we can see clear changes in her behaviour from the person she used to be, but the way they distinguish Elena and Katherine is interesting. Elena has always prioritized her loved ones’ safety, and she would do anything to protect them. As a result she would often hide or evade the truth as a way to “protect” her family and friends. Without humanity, she now has no filter - she completely tells the truth and doesn’t hide anything. That’s why we saw her constantly blurt out comments about anyone and everyone (esp Caroline and Stefan LOL). With Katherine on the other hand, she is almost never honest. She frequently manipulates and tricks people in order to get what she wants, but the difference is her desire is to protect HERSELF, rather than her loved ones (or lack thereof oop).

You were right the first time. It's Stefan's weakness. Damon has no delusions about who Elena is right now. He has his reasons and is clearly patronizing/manipulating/appeasing her. Damon does NOT like her better like this! If he did he would just stop looking for the cure. He's not doing that. How many times has Damon said he wanted it to be real or that what mattered was that what Elena felt for him was REAL. Yes, he being Damon. is less concerned with her feeding on people but he's not just seeing what he "wants" to see.

Elena without humanity is my favorite version of her. Don't get me wrong, she was annoying, but I never liked Stelena and Delena so much that I enjoyed the moment where she stopped (albeit for a few episodes) loving Stefan and Damon. I understand your distrust of Damon in this situation. I liked him, yet I doubted his intentions for finding the cure in this episode. So it's easy for me to see how you can doubt him when you don't like him. I like to watch Stefan happy and carefree. He always had those "sad puppy eyes" with Elena. Sometime he was happy, but never carefree. I guess that's why I never liked Stelena, because then Stefan was unremarkable (in my opinion). Without Elena, it begins to revive and take on color. I love Stefan without Elena, and I can't like him with her. * I just never liked Elena. I hate when main characters are idealized - she wasn't perfect, but everyone around them perceived her like that and imposed a little on the viewers. For this same reason I preferred Caroline in s1 and s2 than now. They make her too perfect.

I think Nina is just awesome ! We saw her play human Elena, Vampire Elena with emotions and without and we saw her play human Katherine and vampire Katherine (not sure about her switch though. And you can tell all the characters apart from one another this is so cool ! The main reason, I guess, for them making her turn off her switch is that they could get rid of the sirebond (for the time beeing). I kinda like seeing her without her emotions. Except of Klaus flirting with Caroline we have never seen him like this and I must say I like this side of him ! Litte question : Are you going to be reacting to The Originals ?

You were speaking about Damon's love-blindness and I completely agree. Damon is an all-in sort. He pined and plotted for Katherine for 125 years. Of course he's going to do whatever he can for Elena if there's a chance she could love him back. This is a fun watch.

Also side note it might be a good idea to watch the next two episodes together bc 18 is like a continuation of 17 :)
