There have been quite a few adaptations of this story (Henry James' Turn of the Screw), but Bly Manor isn't a literal retelling, but rather takes themes from the novel and numerous other stories by Henry James. Arguably the best straight film adaptation is the 1960 movie The Innocents. I like how in this version they explore different types of "ghosts", and not all of them are literal. Dani's ghost is her guilt. Every time she starts to allow herself to feel her attraction to Jamie, her guilt looms up in the form of her dead fiance. I think you're right, though, and at the end of this episode she stared him down and began to accept her guilt rather than run away from it.
