Btw the Brigadier is one of the longest serving companions in classic who and the actor that played him passed away around the filming of this so they put a little tribute to him here.

WhoviVortex

I’d definitely give the advice that if you ever have a moment in the episode relating to someone you can’t recall, it’s *probably* a reference to the classic series, haha

I haven’t watched this yet, but I had to chuckle at your “explain please”

If you're interested I believe there's one last minisode before the next Christmas Special titled "Night and the Doctor" which should have 5 quick "Night" stories, "Bad", "Good", "First", "Last" and "Up All" Night. I liked them and think they're worth a look ....

Okay, I’ll do my best to answer your questions. It sounds like you don’t want to know if he’s coming back, so I’ll skip that. Regarding the Tessalecta, the actual scientific process is kind of murky but your DNA explanation is a good a one as any. Moffat could have done better explaining that. Sometimes he’ll leave some holes so people can fill in their own head canon, based on their preferences. I think he does well on this most of the time, but even I think he dropped the ball on this one, and I give Moffat a lot of leeway. Some say he got arrogant or too cute. It doesn’t really matter to me why, I just know he could have done better explaining this part. Regarding his name, she obviously knows it so he must tell her another time. That’s all I’m going to say on that one. Except for the River at the end, she’s a much younger version in this story. Why did he have to marry her? Some debate on that one. Some say he loves her, some that he knew it was the only way to convince her. I don’t think it’s the last. As you have said, The Doctor could have found another way. River sacrifices a lot for him, so my opinion is based on the song at the end “he gave all he could give her”. I really like this season, but I do agree that 5 is better. Overall, I like this episode. I approach it like I do RTD finales when he throws multiple things in there, they’re fun, so I don’t overly critique it. Great reaction, really enjoyed it!

Thank you! I’m glad to know that the answers to my questions are up for interpretation and not something that I completely missed😂

There's a lot which is really great about this season, but I think the 'arc' is a bit messy.

Ian Smith

My opinions exactly :) In order to sustain the audiences interest over the course of numerous months (in the UK,this season was split into two parts),Moffat had to pile plot revelation upon plot revelation - until you get the feeling that he simply lost track of everything he'd added. As Vanessa says,he appears to leave holes in his plots so that audiences can fill them themselves - and that's never more evident than in Series 6! As a consequence,it's hard for me to re-watch this particular series;as I know that some of it will remain unexplained...even though there are some fine individual episodes.

I agree, that split in the season certainly didn’t help. Moffat had some serious wrangles with the BBC over schedules. They kept switching the time in England, sometimes putting it on earlier. I agree, Ian, The arc was convoluted, and I think it’s entirely possible Moffat lost track. Binge watching definitely helps.

I do feel sorry for Moffat. I gather that he found the task of having to keep making *good* Doctor Who for so long quite stressful. 😀

The phone call was about a character called the Brigadier, who was incharge of UNIT in classic Who and a close associate of the Doctor when he was trapped on Earth in his 3rd Regeneration. The actor passed away around this time so they included this in as the Doctors wake up call to do what is right. River is now the Doctors wife, i'm sure she knows his name now anyway. This episode is a good example of why fixed points in time can't be changed.
