I really enjoy this episode and looking forward to watching your Reaction. There's some subtle bits in here amongst all the obvious bits.

Ahhh - this is the episode where Jared broke his hand - but they didn't know it was broken for about a week. Until they started filming the next episode. Poor guy. It was during the fight in the hotel room when he was ambushed by the two vampires. Silly boys always wanting to do their own stunts. Just still the beginning of season 2 and you know these boys so well already. I was a bit pissed at Dean for hitting Sam, but I understood it. Still didn't like it though. Only thing I can think that had Sam acting the way he was after helping the other hunter and in the bar, was that he was worried about how Dean was acting. And celebrating after a hunt isn't someting I think they've done before. He seemed disturbed by how Dean killed the vampire. And maybe he didn't like how quickly Dean took to the other hunter. That is unusual for Dean. Or had been, based on what we'd seen so far. And then Dean opens up to this stranger. Sam must have known that was going to happen and wasn't happy about it. I think you're right about Dean and why he opened up to gordon and not Sam. I think Dean feels he has to be strong for Sam. That he can't show how bad he's feeling for some reason. Doesn't have to make sense, it just is how he is I guess. The bigger brother being brave to help keep his little brothers worries down. But I also bet he just doesn't like showing any weakness to Sam for reasons more than that. Sam was being pretty smart. He didn't think that Gordon would be a good influence for Dean, and he wasn't. What Gordon said about hunting seemed to strike a chord in Dean. I think that's what he was seeing this hunting trip to be. A chance to just focus on hunting and not dwell in the pain. Take it out on the monsters instead. Vampires may get weaker if they don't drink human blood. Since human blood is what they are supposed to drink, not drinking it might weaken them some. But, overall, we haven't seen much about vampires yet, so who really knows much of anything. I think hearing that Gordon killed his sister was like a gut punch to Dean, because I don't think he can imagine a situation where he'd have to do something like that to Sammy. He sees himself as Sams protector, for crying out loud. But at least we see that he hasn't gone full on wacko like Gordon. And I think Sammy is the one influencing Dean in that regard. I'm pretty sure that the one line even Dean doesn't want to cross is killing humans. They're monster hunters, not "killers". That's a slippery slope. And then it ends with the Broment. I love those discussions the boys have where they're actually listening to each other and not arguing.

I swear my fave part of The Vampire Diaries is when Stefan and Damon bond…same for Supernatural with Dean and Sam.
