You explained that Rose scene perfectly, it's probably Damon's most beautiful scene. Nothing that involves trying to impress Elena or trying to save his own skin, or trying to be on Stefan's level. He took the time to learn about Rose then use that knowledge to give her a peaceful death- it's the exact opposite of what he did with Lexi and that's growth. But of course the writers felt the need to add some "edge" instead of continuing to take some baby steps.

That’s definitely one of this shows bigger problems is their inability to not try to be “edgy” and “dark”. And the worst part is they think they NEED the characters to kill innocent people just to accomplish it, like they couldn’t do it in a more thoughtful or interesting way? Especially with Damon, their favorite go to for the whole “Oh, I know we gave him this huge amount of character development in the last episode BUT we kinda need to stir things up a bit for the drama or to remind you our show is edgy so KILL KILL KILL!” Not to mention their first few scenes in the first episodes of season 1 having only one TRUE purpose: “Oh, we’re not like Twilight, did you see in the opening scene? Our vampires actually kill people! We’re NOT TWILIGHT! And just in case you forget that, we’ll make sure we kill innocent people every other episode as a reminder that our vampires are REAL vampires and not sparkly pacifists!” I mean, I still like the show obviously or I wouldn’t bother watching someone react to it, but I can understand the frustration of them just killing people because “edgy vampires are better”. I’ll never hate the show and I do think they have some great characters and can actually do the “darker” sides of this supernatural world fairly well at times, but that doesn’t stop the frustration that comes from their need to kill people every other episode. It’s not needed to make the show “darker” or “better”, and in the long run, it’s just sad.

Agreed. I still like the show too, but yeah it can be frustrating.

Damon's actions at the end are infuriating, although it does give a little glimpse into his psyche. However, his face after he killed Jessica was one of shock. He normally enjoys the kill, but on this occasion I don't think he did. It didn't take away his pain or bring him joy, it made him feel even worse. Damon does love other people who are just friends, Liz and Ric. Others will be added to that list. This episode, although not initially obvious, has a profound effect on him. He's been gradually changing and I think it only dawned on him in that episode and he's scared. Him killing Jessica was him trying to fight against the change, but it didn't work. Did the writers need to have him kill Jessica? No. But they needed the audience to know that he misses being human, and I guess that was the only way they felt they could realistically write Damon actually admitting it to anyone at this point. I love Caroline complaining about everyone kissing her, a complete contradiction from last season when she complained about being second best. I hate Jules. She's one of my least favourite characters and makes me cringe every time she's on screen. Great reaction. Looking forward to the next one. Stay safe, stay healthy.

Love love love your reaction to this episode!! I cried again watching it with you!

Darius.

It's so frustrating and when I look back, I started thinking, 'Well, that's Damon for you". At this point, I was more upset about Rose dying. Another great Character, gone, I was actually surprised Damon did something positive that had nothing to do with Elena.
