I feel like so much of what we see in this episode is a metaphor for mental illness. Nell is such a tragic character, and what a tragic twist that she was the Bent Neck Lady all along, haunting herself from the beginning.... ensuring that she was always going to meet that end. Kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy. The cinematography in the next episode will blow you away.

Hill House plays with time. Nell was seeing herself in ghost form as a little girl because she was always going to die there, the house knew it and the house made sure of it. The question is why? What does the house want from Nell and her siblings and ultimately, the whole family?
