Designing scifi guns is terrible and highly discouraged by leading experts.

A lot of experimentation with this one - I wanted to design what was effectively an old pattern railgun for +700, so naturally mid-20th century aesthetics were what I was after. I did try my best to make sure it wasn't a one-note "space AK47" but mileage has varied. Got some Star Wars blaster inspiration too, which is always fun. Other inspirations were the Gyrojet concept weapons, the G36C (mostly for length), and the TKB-408 prototype bullpup.

I probably should have done some proper colour thumbnails. The silhouette initially looks fairly distinct, but once you add the wooden furniture everything just immediately converges to the AK, thus the last-minute bullpup design change.

The final product actually resides almost completely on one layer - the others were for the text, background, and holographic effects which need to be seperate for the glow effect. I found that working on one layer speeds up my workflow since I'm not worried about layer management and preserving outlines.
