re:TYE Re: - The Monthly Q&A! - August 2023 BONUS! Week #3 (Patreon)

Hi everyone!

We thought we'd be ready to move onto the Setpember Q&A but we got a late submission from passionate intern, Merobean! It felt like a shame not to post it since she worked so hard on her answer so we get a bonus answer!

Anyways here is Mero's bonus answer from August going through her fav lyrics from re:TYE and TYER!

HELLO THIS IS MERO DEFINITELY NOT SUBMITTING LATE

This is such a hard question because there are so many sets to choose from hahahaha. I’ll also break up my responses by person!! [Narrator: as she wrote her responses, it turned out that picking favorite lyrics per person was extremely easy]

愛梨。: “Days”!! For!! Days!!!!! (From Kagerou Daze) Airi’s lyrics with Saki’s powerful vocals bring tears to my eyes. :’ ))) I always get so emotional during the chorus and I love that she included “days” in the last line. Here’s my favorite part:

“I don’t want to live in a future without you

I don’t want unbearable days to linger and stay”

Airi also does a lot more behind the scenes work with in-depth translations than I think most people realize (my favorite is the Food Fantasy theme song). So I wanted to quickly shout her out for that too hehe~

Jeff: JEFF IS SO CRAZY he’s so good at everything I’m like ??? It’s hard to pick favorites when they’re all good, but one that really stood out to me was “ninelie” from Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress. Like this is one where I choose to sing the English lyrics over the Japanese lyrics!! The hardest part was choosing which part to share hahaha, but of the choruses, I really liked this one:

“Frustration, agony, insanity within your soul

Our truths soon will be exposed, the ultimate goal

Don't give up your daydream, don't let them push you to the side

Keep that light, in your sight, although it's hard we have to try

It's far too late to turn back, the heavens will sing

We'll break this silence, and fate's bells will ring”

But just because I can……. I want to throw in the last chorus too-

“The crushed start to cry and dream, while I will carry out my choice

Towers fall, hear my call, I swear I'll rise above the noise

I'll sing and hold to hope as if there's nothing more

And break this silence, with this song of war”

Another one I really like is “Datte Atashi no Hero” from My Hero! Sometimes I find myself unconsciously singing something and it would be:

“We only have one life but when we are together we can win

Alone I'm weak but with you nothing else can stop me, strength from within”

Spiral: HAHAHAHAHAHA I THOUGHT THIS WOULD BE SO HARD but I have very strong favorites for Spiral lyrics. She’s never missed with lyrics so despite them all being great, I’m here to share my bias LOL. From TYER, I burned some of our covers onto CDs so I could listen in my car (wow can you guess how long ago this was). On the CD, one song I would always go back to and play on loop was “Tsuioku Merry-Go-Round” from Fairy Tail. I know her lyrics by heart and I’m still staring down this song for a full cover on re:TYE HMMMMM. I can’t share the whole set of lyrics as my favorite, so here’s the first chorus section:

“I’ll erase the sun that left

you all alone in darkness

And be the light so you can shine

And someday this pain will

fade and into a new world

That I dream of”

The set she wrote with me on vocals that I particularly loved was Kaibutsu (where is the surprise)!!!! It just flowed so well and there are certain word placements that as a vocalist, was really fun to sing/suit my singing style. I’m not sure if I explained it well, but for example the line “you’ll laugh and you’ll smile again”, the “laugh” was SO satisfying to sing hehe. Here’s my favorite part because it was my absolute favorite to sing!!

“This wonderful new world I see is safer today

Rumours spreading deeper through the city, and so I’ll say I

‘Don’t know why’

‘It’s a lie’

I’ll just pretend, turn a blind eye

Life is just insanity I swear

[...]”

Okay and this one might be surprising, but I really freaking love “Reset” from Run With the Wind HAHAHAHAA. I can’t really explain it… The chorus (especially “ticket”) just tickles my brain:

“Tomorrow, I’ll be there once again

If I run to the end

‘Cause it isn’t over yet, holding onto my ticket

Let’s return to the place

Catching up in this race

‘Cause it isn’t over yet, think it over and reset”

And just because I can’t keep listing all my favorite Spiral lyrics, here are just a few lines I really enjoy from her:

“Let me walk beside you til the fire in me goes out” - “Inferno” Fire Force

“Here we stand again, on our journey’s end, there’s a fire burning wild and free” - “Homura” Demon Slayer (maybe I’m just really into fire)

“I haven’t ate in days, but please don’t tell a soul

I’ll dodge all of your questions ‘til the game’s in my control” - “Idol” Oshi no Ko

Spiral!! My inspiration!! My whole heart!! MY LYRICS chibiQUEEN!!

Teehee and lastly my favorite set of lyrics (of all time) is “Puzzle” from Welcome to the NHK which is written by both Spiral and Jefferz! THE WORLDS COLLIDING- Don’t even ask me about the original version cause it doesn’t exist to me. Not even gonna share my favorite part cause the whole thing is gold please just go listen PLEASEEE TTTTT

I almost forgot to share my favorite Mero-lyrics lmao. I never finalize lyrics I’m not proud of, so instead of sharing my favorite, I’ll just share lines that particularly made me emotional when I wrote it and then made me sweat through my eyeballs when I heard the vocalist sing it:

“BATON ROAD oh, how far I traveled

Flowers can blossom with the tears that were shed

This writing exercise just taught me that I like writing sad songs : D
