Hi everyone!

Hope you are all doing well!

Spiral here with our newest patreon exclusive segment! re:TYE Re: (or re:TYE Replies!) is a new monthly Q&A segment where we ask our team a question of the month. Each week of the month, we will showcase the answer of a certain team member (and maybe some of the others may want to add in a comment or two...of encouragement or banter...) and we can learn a bit more about each of our re:TYE pals!

Patreons of any level can submit their own questions (as many as you want!) either in the comments or via DM for us to answer on another month's Q&A so feel free to submit some questions you'd love to hear the answers to because we're super excited to get some Q&A done!

This month's question is:

'What is an anime or TV show you think everyone should watch?'

Kicking off July 2023 week#1 is Jefferz's answer!

July 2023 - Week #1 (Jefferz)

I have very seinen-geared anime tastes so while there’s quite a few shows I think everyone should “try” to watch, most my shows reccs probably aren’t really suited for most people’s tastes (i.e. some my favorite shows are Baccano, Eden of the East, Erased and Odd Taxi, these are NOT shows I would recommend for the casual anime watcher).
Two shows that I would actually recommend everyone should at least try watching are Beastars and Horimiya.
Beastars is a show that’s hard to place into a specific genre because it has elements in so many different directions, there’s something for almost everyone here. Don’t let the CGI or marketing toward the furries turn you off before giving it a shot. This anime is a murder mystery, a coming of age story, a psychological thriller, and a corrupted romeo and juliet love story of sorts all mixed into one. There’s a lot of working pieces and there’s an occasional whiplash moment when certain elements don’t transition as smoothly as they could’ve been, but regardless of what kind of anime genre you like, you’ll probably find something to like (or at the very least find interesting) here!
Horimiya on the other hand is a much more traditional-styled anime but perhaps the crown jewel of the rom-com/dramedy genre. It’s hilarious, stylish, and quite dramatic beyond the surface once the anime starts delving into each character’s background and internal monologues. I also appreciate that the show dodges the pitfall where one of the romantic leads are too perfect (aka shallow and poorly written, a spot that many other rom-coms stumble for me) or finishes its run filled with cute moments that ultimately amount to little at the series conclusion. Admittedly the anime adaptation does suffer from being condensed and rushed in it’s last few episodes but to quote one of my friends, “I based someone’s taste in anime on whether they like Horimiya or not”.

Jefferz out.

PS: Not intentionally done but Horimiya will be back for a second season adapting stories and elements that were skipped in the show’s original 2021 run so now’s just the right time to catch up on the first season over on crunchyroll!

Additional re:TYE member comments:

Spiral: I almost chose Odd Taxi as one of mine LOL it has fun animals and mystery like give the people what they want!
Mero: “Marketing toward the furries turn you off” HAHAHAHAHA (and she fell asleep soon after that)

Tune in next week for another answer from one of our team!

Who will it be? Be sure to submit your questions if you want to know the answers (we'll apparently answer almost anything LOL).

Have a great day everyone!
