I'm super way behind on filling all the preorder doodle requests for TVB vol 2, bUT! I've started working on them slowly! Gonna post up a few that I finished recently; I'm hoping to jam through a bunch of them on my vacation, after making sure all the comic pages for this month are complete!

This one was for 2330nm, who requested a doodle of Chief Rice from This Vacant Body :) I decided to draw her younger; she used to be in the k9 unit and trained a lot of german shepherds, so I included one of her favorite girls, and she and Esh would work Pride marches together :))

(I've been thinking a lot about my choice to make a comic about police officers in the climate of this country, lately. I approached the narrative of TVB like a detective story; generally, the people trying to solve the crime are genuinely doing their best, despite their own human failings, and despite the systems and circumstances around them that might hinder them. I don't want it to be confused with a "pro-cop" story that's trying to idealize the system we have. So please don't take this as a statement that I think cops belong at pride or anything; I know that situation is complex. These particular cops in this particular story would be there because they are part of that community and wanna keep them safe. I hope that makes sense~)

I'm glad to see your comment on police. It can be difficult for creators to handle the topic, especially since "Crime Drama" is such a popular genre and makes for compelling stories.

hmm i didn't feel either way about the police, but that is probably i don't live in a place where it is such a hot -button issue. it doesn't affect me reading the comic as i try not to get affected by gross generalization of people groups and instead judge by individuals, and in the end esh and friends are good people by themselves not representing the groups they're in. but it's nice of you to consider how others might perceive it.

I appreciate the depiction of the police—and in this case, Esh and his commanding officer rose through the ranks of beat cops into detective work—which is grueling and takes intelligence and dedication. I love the diversity you have represented and it does not appear “pro-cop,” but is really about a character who just happens to be a cop.

Thank you for your sharing your thoughts on the police subject. It really sounds complicated and I think you're handling well! Other than that: love the doodle! <3 Thank you for sharing!
