I went on a bagginshield fic binge recently looking for fics where Thorin lives and comes to live in the Shire after Erebor because he can't shake the effects of the gold sickness while he's in the mountain, so he just makes someone else king and fucks off to live with Bilbo~ 

My headcanon is Bilbo still keeps the ring and it extends his life to match Thorin's and when they get old they go to the Undying Lands together with poor Frodo, fuck, I think I just broke myself
