The Feeder Trenches dwell in the Far Realm, which is not another Plane, but an alternate dimension outside of the normal wheel of cosmology. The laws of reality do not apply there, and it is similar to the Warp, for those familiar with Warhammer.

The Trenches are a location where Grells come to feed upon the purple sludge created there.

Mind Flayers scribed a powerful rune there and felt comfortable that it would be suitably protected by the creatures there that come to feed.

How would I use this location?

It would be a good location for the party to visit should they need to find some otherworldly type of reagent, ingredient or specimen.

It could be a good location to ambush an otherworldly creature the party has been tasked to capture or kill for a quest.

It could hold an entity knowledgeable in the Far Realm (or other similar place in your world) that may part with said knowledge for a particular favor.
