Today I finished working on some pending commissions and was meant to tackle the scheduling of some art, With the idea of using Sunday and Monday to take a small break and recharge or Draw

As you all know, my primary site to upload is deviantArt. Main disadvantages are that

  • 1- Each alt has to be it's own thing,
  • 2- The whole issue with lewding fictional characters that are under age in their original context (Can't lewd even if I age them up)

My second site to schedule/post art is ExTwitter/X(?) which I usually enjoy the site by allowing me to post alts and what not. It has it's own up and downs, but with Musk it feels I REALLY needs to consider my options, I tend to listen artist complain about him (and that he basically does not care about artist in general, also wanting to implement AI shit and what not) Plus the limited space for characters, not to mention I can't even try/hire Twitter blue due it not being available in my country.

Third site is obviously Patreon, but here I basically drop things as soon as I have enough stuff to post and what not And is a paid site.

Posting on dA and Twitter

Basically There is the sta.sh folder of saved submissions and there is all the stuff that supposedly will be uploaded soonish.

  • First I upload arts like Patreon requests, sketchoramas , pending requests, commissions, horny arts, etc.
  • Then I organize all the current work (basically naming them on where they are supposed to be uploaded, many times also adding the title (YYYYMMDD# like 2023SEP01A)
  • I then proceed to add descriptions, tags and organize them on the respective folders (prepare for their submission on deviantArt)
  • Once everything is set on dA I then start scheduling them simultaneously on both sides. Schedule the post on Twitter giving it a brief description (what I can with the character limit), Put the artwork, etc. and once it's ready there I just assign the scheduling date on deviantArt.

The deviantArt part may take a while at times because I also have to scramble through Patreon to find the respective pieces that contain the art, the description and I try to link the respective people within the site. Usually it takes me a couple days to prepare (total about 3-4 days a month since I also try to schedule other arts like comms, request and whatever other thing I draw through the month.

Managing sites

Being honest, I find it quite hard multitasking. uploading on Twitter takes it's time, and adding another site likely won't help. (unless either I add more time to it, or remove another site.

What I look on the secondary site basically is:

  • 1) Allows me to post NSFW stuff (don't have absurd restrictions like dA)
  • 2) Allows me to schedule art
  • 3) Has a good control of tags

Other optional stuff could be

  • Allow to put multiple images (Likely for alts) in a single post
  • Handling galleries
  • Search feature (The issue with Twitter is that I seem to be shadow banned)

Pillowfort is more community oriented (Basically people donate to keep the site independent), But I think they don't have a schedule feature yet, and I feel their tag system doesn't help neither.

While I wrote this, I can't help Pixiv is Really a good alternative as it has the main stuff I look for (Allows NSFW, schedule art (for premium) and seems to have a good control of tags) Main worry is posting my previous work, I could leave things as they are, but I feel posting some old artwork (mainly stuff with alts or stuff I really like) might help have things in a single place.

Tumblr doesn't allows NSFW stuff anymore (can be added but would be shadow banned)

I don't even consider Facebook/Instagram/Threads because I believe they don't allow NSFW, was never an option in my eyes TBH

Discord could be an option, but doesn't has the scheduling and I feel I would end up stressing a lot by managing work with a server, part of me has been wondering about integrating it with Patreon but basically I'm not very active on it, so feel might end up being pointless.

(I never looked at Mastodon nor Hive social since my mentality usually is "as long as the site works, I won't bother", But again, starting to feel the disdain from Musk on Twitter so I'm really starting to question if I want that site as a secondary option)

I think I'll use tomorrow to finish scheduling the stuff only on dA

Likely I'll just use Twitter to share/look art (since I no longer see art on deviant Art's thanks to Eclipse :V) (nor visit Pixiv as often TBH) and give it a thought on Pixiv likely will start with posting works/comics I really like and such and then pick a month to start scheduling stuff there.

If you read all the ramble, thanks. I appreciate you taking the time to do so.

Anyways, I wonder, out of the social media mentioned here, which ones you use with frequency? (Is multiple choice, but that thing is failling currently in mobile IIRC)

Pixiv is your best bet. As an alternative choice, Baraag.net is a mastodon site tha tallows you to post art of anything, for all the good and bad that means.

Muddies

Move from DA to Pixiv, stay at Twitter/X and if you want, spread to Instagram and baraag.net

Deviant art is my main site, so no, won't be changing from there, but will try to post more on pixiv and pillow fort

Twitter will likely just be used to retweet stuff unless they improve the site which I doubt
